In the manga I liked the beginning and end of the Skypiea arc, so I agree with the reviewer that it's probably best to view it as what it's setting up: a boss fight and then the next arc.

I officially lost interest in One Piece at the bad guy with the explosive orbs.
I mean, really, after Crocodile, it should have taken exactly two minutes for Luffy to get rid of this guy. By himself. Blindfolded. While on the toilet with terrible diarrhea and playing a game on the Nintendo DS.

You do remember the fact that Crocodile couldn't read minds right?

The ball guy could read minds? Those were such terrible episodes, it was hard to keep my attention on them.
All right, even so, it shouldn't have taken four episodes for some scrub mini-boss.

Yeah, the mantra ability that the Priests had is what makes them so tough. Being able to know exactly what attack is coming makes it pretty easy to defend.
I gotta agree with the review. These episodes were pure setup for the climax of Skypiea, but that doesn't mean they don't have enjoyment value themselves. I particularly liked all the backdrop of the Bilkans, the Skypieans, and the Shandians (I hear they're Shandorians now?).

It only took two (and I guess a half) episodes. Technically three because an episode inbetween the fight was an episode involving Chopper protecting the ship, but really, the fight itself was two episodes.
I'm not disagreeing that I thought Skypeia was the worst arc, but really, you should have stuck around for the best ones that came after it.

I can't wait to get the two season 3 sets that are out. This arc is what solidified One Piece as the top of the current shonen series for me. Though I have to say, I am curious about Funi's decision to name the guy Eneru instead of Enel, though maybe the japanese pronunciation is a play on the word enerugi (energy). Maybe that's it...

I just finished the first disk.
That ep where Luffy noticed Conis had been trembling the whole time-that he noticed something the "more intelligent" crewmwmners overlooked IS part of Luffy's character that make him the ship's captain. He's an idiot, but he sees important clues.
I hate this whole (Enel) arc, but Satori didn't drag out that long. He was fighting 3 characters who fight independantly so each one had to come to their own realization of his power which they did reasonably swiftly, Had they formed a circle & exchanged noted, they might have had hims sooner, but he likely would have disrupted that. Part of the whole sphere thing was disorienting the fighters so they never knew what was coming.
One Piece is the one dub I enjoy of Funi's. Others are up & down, but they are doing well with this one. Yeah, the Japanese are usually better (God, was Satori annoying in Japanese? Yes, because he was supposed to be. It was an added distraction)
Poor Chopper! He is so adorable

Except if one listens to the Japanese track, most of the Japanese VA's are saying "Enel"(Enel-sama, etc) Yanami I can't quite figure out. Don't speak Japanese, but it sounds as though he's saying "Enel-ura" He definitely gets the Enel bit out, but I can't tell if the rest is a title or him messing up a foreign word.
Morikawa is a bit more fun as Enel than Tatum.
(edited when I finally got to ep 167 & Enel)

Say what you will about how long or bad the Skypiea arc is, but nothing's worse than the Davy Back Fight mini arc that takes place after it. Out of all the epoch length arcs in One Piece, Skypiea definitely ranks as the worst one, but it isn't all that bad once it gets rolling. Infact, it's one the reasons my sister lost interest in the series. She didn't take too kindly to the exposition of world detail in the Skypiea throughout the episodes and the fact that Pirates were fighting a so called megalomaniac God. It was a step back from the Alabasta arc. Even when I told her that the arc was over, she just wasn't willing to put up with another long running Shounen series after Dragon Ball. It's a shame considering I thought I found some common ground with her. It was fun while it lasted :/
I've decided not to purchase these sets in the hopes that FUNimation gets around to releasing complete Season Sets instead of buying them in separate parts. I do admit though, I love the cover art for the box sets. I just hope FUNi get around to releasing the movies at some point. I loved the Mamoru Hosoda film and the Episode of Chopper remake.

"L" and "R" are the same in Japanese. So adaptors have to (or at least, should) consider what the original writers meant.

That's what's confusing. Yanami is saying "Enel-ura". By your logic that would be Enerura or Enelula. Yanami is Gan-Fall (Without checking the encyclopedia-I know he's in DBZ I believe as Dr. Briefs, but I might be wrong). He very clearly says "Enel" but ads that extra bit.
The 3 Priest-dudes say "Enel-sama" not "Eneru-sama" They manage a clean cut on the "l".
I know it's a bit pickly, but I take issue with people who automatically add a vowel at the end of all character names in the idea "it's how they speak in Japan" becaue there are a handful of VA's who are good enought at their job, they can actually pull off Western names. I listen to how several characters say the name & if only a couple are adding the vowel, then I assume it's not meant to be there. Look at Athrun Zala. Akira Ishida had a harder time saying his character's name (Ashrun) than Soichiro Hoshi who managed a pretty good "Athrun".
Its really no different from American actors managing to speak foreign words. Some can pull it off while others slaughter them. We won't even get into accents. (I've heard a lot of Brits take issue with American actors & their idea of what passes for a British accent)

I'm also one of those who didn't think very highly of the Skypia Arc. and to be honest It made me stop watching for a while - wich I'm actually quite thankfull off. Since that gave them more time to produce a ton of new episodes.
I endulged in another One Piece marathon after that (Davy Backfight mini arc. wasn't really that interesting either though..) and I'm a huge fan now.
I think those that gave up at this part should give it another try because it keeps getting more intense and personally the more insight I get into the world Oda created the more I want to know and the more exited I am to see what comes next.
I'm 100% up to date on manga and anime now. I'm so happy I came back to the One Piece even after giving up at Skypia Arc at first.

My problem is that Oda has created this amazing world, and made the most generic cast of characters the main characters. I gave up when Oda could have given Luffy amazing character development, did it for a few chapters than immediately returned the cast back to normal just with more scars.
