I would be fun to be able to post your own reviews to an anime like on amazon.com or Netflix. Or, at least be able to link your "My Anime" comments to the Encyclopedia page for the respective title. That way you could read what other members thought about a title, not just have the ratings number.

Just wanna say I agree with chris keck in being able to see the public "My Anime" lists of other members that have seen the anime/manga. Like a little link that takes you to a searched/filtered list of public lists. I'd love this because I would able to quickly find other anime/manga that people that agree with my ratings also like. It'd save me the grief of being lured into another Noir or Rahxephon, that have high ratings but turned out are not what I liked.
Um, go ahead and delete this post if it clutters. ![]() |

This is just a random idea I had; not sure how practical it would be to implement it, but it seems like it'd be cool if it could be done.
I know some people have mentioned adding suggestions to each page along the lines of, "People who liked this also liked..." drawing from people's My Anime ratings (I didn't read far enough to see if this was, for some reason, impractical; I only saw that it had been suggested because I had thought of mentioning it myself). I was thinking that the comments people write about shows could also show up on the encyclopedia entry, most likely on a separate page (like trivia information or episode titles). Seeing how people rated a show is good for a quick assessment of how you might like it, but if the comments everyone has left about the show were all collected there too, it'd provide a better sense of how people feel about the show. It also makes it more worthwhile for people to leave comments on their My Anime pages. I leave comments for every show I finish as a quick review, but I doubt anyone actually reads them. With so many members who have so many opinions about so many shows, ANN really has an untapped resource that it could incorporate into the encyclopedia if My Anime comments could show up on the shows' corresponding entries. Just a thought. |

I agree with this. Database sites for other mediums, such as Moby Games, a videogame database, allow users to post their own reviews. I think we should have that here, based on a letter grade or number-based system. We can rate them, so why can't we write reviews? |

You can leave your views regarding the titles you watched by writing comments on your "my anime" page and making it public. There are other websites that focus specifically on user reviews like Animenfo. Maybe you should try there. |

But perhaps some sort of functionality is required in order to make better use of the features currently available. Suppose I want to read some reviews on TTGL, other than Key's recent review of the subtitled volume 1. As it stand now, I have to basically click names randomly on the public list to see if they've seen it and entered comments on it. What if there were a link on the encyclopedia page that returned a list of all the users who have that particular anime on their public lists with comments entered? |

Hmmm, I see it's been four years, so I'm assuming that that idea got a resounding 'no' from Dan and Tempest?

I don't think it a definite no. It's not a priority, or it's quite difficult to implement.
Of course it's possible that dan just forgot about that idea. ![]() |

In addition to DVD reviews and a list of user comments on an anime, I would like to see links to the season previews of it.
These two additions would help a lot in assessing whether a particular anime is something I would like. Currently there are only the very short (and sometimes misleading) synopsis, and the DVD reviews if they exist. That's often not enough to get an accurate impression of an anime. When I asked about the user comments before, someone replied that that idea had been brought up several times before, and would likely be added when the person in charge of the database would work on it again. Have they been woken up from their slumber yet, or should we call for a beautiful prince/ss to kiss them awake? ![]() |

The problem with user comments is that the average quality tends to be very low. Sure there will be insightful comments, but there will also be a ton of one-liner crap. So it's not enough to just have comments; in order to be viable you need to have it moderated by staff (which is more work than we want to shoulder) or you need to have the whole peer-moderation framework that will allow low-quality comments to be removed. And then you get into the issue of whether people vote off a comment/review because it was badly written or because they disagree with the content. It's a pretty big can of worms to open.

?? Why can't you just put a warning "These are just user comments, not actual ANN reviews" above such a list? That would be enough for me. No troublesome voting or moderation needed. And having them available is better than not having them available anyway, ne?
Or you could try to filter out the serious commenters by arbitrarily limiting the results to people who have seen at least 20 anime and commented on at least 10 of them, or something. Pretty please? |

If that's all you need, the Comment field of MyAnime/MyManga should be sufficient. |

Yes, that's what I was asking for, isn't it? A list of the comments from people who have seen a particular anime, on or linked from that anime's encyclopedia entry. |

Proposed four years ago by yours truly. Not as important than the new language option(s) though (and I have waited almost five years for that), so personally I'm not in a hurry. ![]() |
