I noticed that the "vintage" field for Black Rock Shooter listed the date that the preview video was released. Since I thought it was inaccurate to say that the vintage for the anime was when a preview was released (as opposed to when the actual OAV was released), I was thinking of making an error report for that. However, it doesn't seem possible to submit an error report for it, as no icon appears next to it when I click "report an error" or "lookup sources". Is there a reason why that information has no source field and can't be marked erroneous?

I think the Vintage date is possibly based off of the releases. And the releases page lists 9/30/2009 for the pilot DVD's release, although the info on the official site (which is the source) seems to indicate that cast wasn't even announced until 3/24/2010, so I'd question that date anyway.

The "pilot edition" DVD was released on 30th September last year. It was basically a music video, hence there being no cast at the time.

If the vintage is being taken from the releases information, is it possible to change the vintage but still leave the release date for the "pilot edition" in the releases section? I think that date is accurate for the pilot edition, but the pilot edition is basically just a trailer released on DVD, not an actual episode.

Just submit a vintage, which will overwrite the current date.

I just submitted another vintage, but it doesn't look like it has overwritten the other date. Both dates now appear in the vintage section.

I can't see a way to correct this with the current system other than by hiding the pilot DVD.

Wouldn't it technically be correct, though, to have both vintages? I've seen on other series where it has precisions (such as Japanese release/US release/etc) with the vintages. So couldn't we have it like this?
Vintage
[2009/XX/XX] (Pilot DVD)
[2010/XX/XX] (Full Release)

[2010/XX/XX] (Full Release)

Well, I would probably say no, as the pilot DVD is basically just a trailer. I don't think trailers and promotional videos are generally counted when listing the vintage, though this case is somewhat unusual in that there was a DVD release for it.

I also don't think it is accurate to have Black Rock Shooter show up in searches as a 2009 title instead of a 2010 title. Right now if you use the genre search to look for 2010 titles, it won't show up, even though the actual OAV came out in 2010.

Why can't an error report be made for that?

Because the vintage date wasn't entered so there's nothing to make an error report against, you'd have to make an error report against the release, but it is actually correct (I entered it myself).

Ah, nice. Understood. I kinda agree more with Calathan since the pilot really seems like just a trailer of the final product, but that's not for me to decide. Is there any similar case to this?

Troublesome that your (Japan Pilot DVD) comment doesn't appear in the vintage. Without it, people will get confused.

If a vintage date is entered first with a comment, does a later entry on the release date affect it?

I could hide it, but I was hoping a more senior editor would chime in with their opinion first.

I've tweaked the encyc to display an asterisk when the vintage comes from a release. For example, on Black Rock Shooter you'll see "2009-09-30*" and when hovering on the asterisk you'll see "see link below for 2009-09-30 release (Japan Pilot DVD)". But apart from that I don't know what else to do beyond forbidding these "pre-release" kind of releases.
