Seems that it's in the works, and Satou Takeru (Den-O) is the guy playing him

His acting in Ryumaden seemed to have left a good impression. Here are a few things from the article: - There have been talks in the past of an adaptation, but CGI and technology was not good enough. - Watsuki, the original author, made it clear that he did not want Hollywood to make it, and even when offers were given from Hollywood he refused thus the reason there never was a movie for Rurouni Kenshin - There were rumors of Kenshin being played by Miura Haruma, Oguri Shun, Ikuta Toma, etc. but the staff settled on Sato Takeru as they saw him to be more fit for the role [EDIT: Merged your thread into the other one, but thanks for some details. -TK] |

RANKING! CG! 1994! NHK! cyzo woman! Ya-Ya-Yah! I can read Japanese! But I'm more interested in the Beck movie at this point. We got him and the guy from Kabuto too. |

If it'll be a reimagining of Tsuikohen, then what's the point? The anime will be better anyway.
If it'll be like the series, then I expect that at the first "ORO" of the main character he'll do such an awful grimace that I'll turn it off. Still... might be worth a look. Maybe they're better at making movies that have something to do with their own history. |

I don't know, If you've seen his character in Kamen Rider Den-O, then you might have a little more faith in his "oro". Cause that's kind of how I imagine him playing kenshin for the most part; similar to that character but not as meek. As far as the kinder Himura Kenshin side, i think Satou Takeru is a good fit. But for that fiercer/colder Battosi side, I don't know. But he does have surprising range too so maybe.

. I forgot such an option existed. And if they put Aoshi in this, I recommend they take a look at Storm Shadow's costuming from the G.I. Joe movie (where he's wearing a trench coat, would post a pic if I could find one...). |

Haven't seen the actor's other work, but as a huge Rurouni Kenshin fan, I'm hopeful, though skeptical. Like the high possibility that the movie will end on a sad or depressing note. Since stopping the movie at the end of the first arc of the anime wouldn't have accomplished much other than set the premise for future events, and cramming the entire Kyoto arc into a movie by shortening or cutting out plot development and battles wouldn't do it justice. The third arc of the anime, eehhh... a movie on filler doesn't sound like my cup of tea. I'd love to see the Jinchu arc of the manga on film, but that requires the setup of the first anime arc, and the character growth and development of the second. To cram all of Rurouni Kenshin into a 2-hour or so movie seems like a tall order, but I'm still hopeful nonetheless. Maybe this will reignite the fanbase and cause the producers to finish the Jinchu arc on anime? *ends his list of hopes and wants*

More likely they are going to follow the MANGA and input will be directly by Watsuki himself, unlike the 3rd anime arc and OVAs

Which is the problem for me. The OAVs (first 4) are the only part of the whole story that's worth hanging onto. Everything else was throwaway entertainment. |

What?!! Why would CGI and technology be needed for a samurai story? Japan has been making samurai films without CGI for as long as film has existed. A good director to handle the story and pacing of the movie and a good action choreographer to depict the swordfights should be all that's needed. This news just makes me think the film will be a bloated mess with CGI blood and CGI settings everywhere. Really, the original material is not such that it can't be filmed in the same manner as your normal jidaigeki live-action material. Oh well. At least the actor they've chosen has some martial arts film experience and isn't just from a boy band. |
