Kazuhiro SASAKI 佐々木 和宏 is... well, how many persons exactly?
("You're Under Arrest" and "Gantz" occur in many such requests, and neither appears to have any decent credits source anywhere in the web while both have lots of credits at ANN) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ __________ (1996) You're Under Arrest (TV) : Drawing Director ("DVD Credits - Ep. 5"; no source found) __________ (1997) Demon Fighter Kocho (OAV) : Character Design ("Official Japanese Staff Credit List"; no source found) __________ (2002) Kikou Sen'nyo Rouran (TV) : Animation Director (http://www.starchild.co.jp/special/rouran/episode/index.html?EN=012, unusable; no source found) (no kanji) May be the animator or the director, see below. I don't know if I have the original Japanese credits for all of these, but I do have access (via DVDs or fansubs) to the credits to these, if you tell me what I should look for to help out. |

Wherever you see "__________" instead of a kanji string, adding sources (or screenshots) to this thread can only be helpful. (In your case this would be Kikou Sen'nyo Rouran.)
Those where kanji are already there are backed up by good sources (livedoor wiki, D2_STATION etc. are very good quality while not guaranteed error-free). |

I checked, and Naruto is the only one of the Region 1 releases have the Japanese-language credits (though AnimEigo's release of the original four You're Under Arrest! OAVs does include the kanji names of the primary staff in the opening credits). Unfortunately, "佐々木" does not appear in the first episode's end credits, and I'm not about to go through every episode. However, I did find good sources for the staff of YUA! and Gantz seasons 1 and (I presume) 2: http://web.archive.org/web/20001003230410/www.tbs.co.jp/w_anime/wtaiho/staff.html http://web.archive.org/web/19990129032902/http://www.deen.co.jp/taiho/index.html Season 1: http://web.archive.org/web/20040718025504/http://www.gantz.net/staff/index.html Season 2(?): http://web.archive.org/web/20041108020521/http://www.gantz.net/staff/index.html Also, I suspect "Drawing Director" is a literal translation of "animation supervisor"/"key animation director" ("sakuga kantoku"), per Wikipedia's Appendix:Japanese film credit terms. IMHO you need to add the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine to your bag of tricks. ![]() Edit: OTOH, if you have a specific episode of Naruto that you want checked, I'll be glad to do it. |

Um... your sources for Gantz and YUA are high-level only, and as such hardly better than Wikipedia. What I'd be looking for is the complete credits, i. e. D2_STATION quality as someone has entered the complete credits (>100 Key Animation credits at Gantz alone, plus In-Betweeners, Second Key Animators, In-Between Checkers etc.) to ANN but with source "episode credits". Must have been a hell of work... and sadly most of these ca.200 animator persons have no kanji name. (I accidentally ran into at least a dozen of them already. A Gantz fan could do a valuable job by adding those kanji to the already credited persons from the Japanese videos; with the romanization already done the mapping won't be too difficult; I did that for a dozen other shows already but not from the video as I had good WWW kanji sources in all these cases.)
When I'm adding a credit for a person whose name I'm not sure about I often systematically check all (browser-unvisited) ANN persons of the probable surname and check their kanji names & sources. If the sources are unusable, I leave the persons as they are; if the source is good I add the kanji name immediately (in hope to find "my" person in the process). In some of these cases I stumble over an obvious split candidate which will then be bookmarked; and in some (very few) of these cases the split is so obvious that I try to handle it immediately. Thus having come far off my original track I try to start with the easiest source cases (as they may already be sufficient for Dan42 to accept the split request). Only when I run into problems making a recommendation whether to split or not I will try to really search the web for a particular source for every last kanji name... such as in the current thread. Therefore I consider it more efficient when a wayback machine specialist like you can add the icing on the sources cake; for the anime I would like to contribute credits to I won't need it so I will rarely ever use it. The Naruto credit (with "Original Picture" as task specification) had no episode mentioned. Last edited by Devil Doll on Wed Jul 07, 2010 8:32 pm; edited 1 time in total |

<shrug> I took your statement literally:
(Emphasis added.) And while they are "high-level only", they are from the makers themselves, rather than random anime fans. |

Sorry to have been ambiguous. "Credits" for me is what can be seen in the Japanese video's OP/ED sections, and I rate the quality of an URL source by how close it comes to this (high-level sources from the creators rarely ever cover more than 10% of all persons involved, and mostly even much less than that.)

By chance (since I don't tend to keep very many fansubs around for long), I do happen to be able to check Ginban Kaleidoscope. Here's a screencap of the Key Animation credits for episode 3. He is 佐々木一浩 there.
