I have heard many mixed feelings about this anime. I might give it a watch, normally I don't like harems a lot though.

its not that it doesn't try to be more the problem is it tries to do too much in its short series span of 13 episodes. the show constantly has its foot on the accelerator and each episode feels like they are pushing through 3 episodes of plot its just crazy fast. but yeah its so interesting you can't help but want to see where it goes. but much like angel beats its trying to do way too much in 13 episodes.

This is what I feel, but I'm enjoying this series so far. I think I would like it even more if it was lengthened into 24 episodes. There's a lot I feel like I've missed.

Give Ichiban Ushiro its due; it has that confluence down pat—even with its pervasive "paste a face over it" censorship.

However it should be noted that AT-X is showing it uncensored as usual.

Interestingly it may seem like the chibi-faced censor tool is part of the comedy, which you'd lose in the AT-X version, but they also went to the extra effort of re-animating the censored version with extra clothing and what not on other less obvious scenes for the Tokyo MX broadcast and CR / AN streams.

Anyways, I agree on the overall review given the right expectation. And on relative merits I'd put the Story grade at B rather than C+. (the only fault being so much packed in) I also agree with the above mentioned that it should be longer!

Totally agree. I keep watching this in hopes it'll turn out like Negima! and shed the silly harem stuff in favor of delivering something more substantial, but I don't think it's going to happen.

I kind of had the same reaction originally. I could look past the shredded tops and panties. I was slightly intrigued by demons and dragons being AIs, but I think spoiler[the little kid finding a wristwatch that secretly turns into a flying robot suit] pretty much guarantees it'll never deliver anything better than said tops, etc. I gave up on it then.

"Infuriating" is definitely the right word. The whole "story, fanservice, story" thing might work for a 24 episode series, or a 12 episode series without much story, but unfortunately Ichiban is neither of those. You notice it throughout the show, but by the latest episode (10) it goes on overdrive with the story, to the point of it not making sense anymore.

The whole censor-face thing is a joke, for sure. In one scene it will cover someone's panties, but in the next they are in full view. I don't know who they're trolling with that, the S&P guys, soccer moms, etc., or the audience.

Someone on 4chan described this as "Harem Potter and the Color Wars."

Yellow>Blue>Green>Purple>Red>Dark Green

Almost every episode the above changes, with both Blue and Purple moving up as of late (though Yellow is always the best Razz ).

i have to agree with the reviewer on one thing: ichi-ushi-dai had a great premise but was too crammed with stuff. i honestly don't care about the characters anymore - especially now that the later episodes chucked everything in a blender and tossed some c4 in the mix.

P.S.
"The urge to throw crap at your screen, in other words, is acute."

Amen to that.

I agree. Awesome fanservice and male lead, but sporadic storytelling that doesn't really go anywhere.

Thought for sure Theron would be the one reviewing this series. Not that Carl wasn't an excellent pick. Still, feels quite weird to see a review of a series that hasn't finished airing in Japan yet. Not that it's the first time, either.

Agreed. But I'll gladly take that instead of a normally paced incomplete series (too many series like that lol). I'm in a dilemma though, is it that the series are truly fast paced, or it that they won't stop for fillers anymore? With the massive use of fillers around I wouldn't be surprised if I already got used, and dependent on it; even more because I watch lots of long running shonen.

Then it could be the third choice. Why not? Everything packed in 12 episodes... at least that's a less generic format.

The problem I have with this show is that I have serious problems following the series plot elements. I'm not sure if it is just that I'm having problems following them or that they are inherantly hard to follow - but they seem to just chuck things in without explanation, or at least I generally have no recollection of them being mentioned before. Of course, it could just be that the boobs are distracting me (although the random censorship - both the "stickers" applied inconsistently by the animators and the random shading out half the screen by the broadcasters - is also quite distracting)

Also, I think Red >= Green > Yellow > Blue > Purple

I will say that today's ep is probably the best, in all areas. Still has stuff coming from nowhere, but at least it's not terribly important plot points for the most part. Still would have liked the reveals more spread out, but it's about as good as it gets in a short series.

Also, Yellow is now officially the best anime character ever. For at least today.

Light novels like Ichiban Ushiro no Daimao can't really get anywhere with such few episodes, considering how the light novel version already got like 8 volumes going (I haven't read them, but I assume that a lot of stuffs happened in there).
