They should try and do an airing in subtitles as a trial to see if it could work, cause I'm sorry but the Gundam 00 dub was one of the worst dubs I've heard in recent years. I'm a supporter of dubs too, a majority of anime I watch is in dub.

I liked Ocean Studio's work on Mobile Suit Gundam, Gundam Wing, and even Seed even though I wasn't a big fan of the series itself. I'm a huge Gundam fan, and have enjoyed nearly all the dubs for the different series but Gundam 00 is one I simply can't watch dubbed.

Yeah I still just can't get past the fact they changed their name's spelling to SyFy...

On paper, the English dub for Gundam 00 was excellent. You had Brad Swaile, Scott McNeil, Paul Dobson, and a lot of other talented VAs. But in practice, it was bad. I don't know whether the directing was bad, or the VAs were just phoning it. Who knows? It was very disappointing.

Haven't seen it myself so this is good news for me. I'm watching and clearing out the Monster episodes I had my DVR record from SyFy so I'll have room to record Gundam 00 now. Wasn't sure if I wanted to buy this show so it'll be good to see it first and make that decision.

I think part of it might have been the script. I think they may have stuck a little to close to the original script, and instead they should have pulled a FUNi and spiced up the English script a bit. Nothing major, just some dialogue here and there.

This is great news for me, as I missed the original airing of Gundam 00.

I also see Monster is returning to its regularly scheduled timeslot on the same night Gundam 00 returns. Is Monster here to stay? Will they pick up where they left off, or back to ep 1? The Monster episodes are labeled 'new', so I'm thinking they'll just continue ahead.

LOL! Methinks you are trying too hard to make a disparaging comment but tempering it by saying something good about Ocean dubs. Do you work for a rival studio.

Sorry, but ever since the Bang Zoom thing, I get suspicious of these kind of pot shots with nothing to back them up.

How about a list of the series you've watched that you think are so much better?

Canadian Crippler - Gundam 00 is a great show, dubbed or in the original Japanese. I hope you get to watch it and make your own judgment.

I finally caught the Syfy broadcast of 00 and dub is so awful. The voices don't match the characters( wouldn't Sergei's voice sound better if he got a Russian accent?) and so many scenes have been cut out. I just glad I have all the uncut episodes....on my computer.

I wish I worked for a dubbing studio, that would be an awesome job. So no I do not work for a rival studio, I was just utterly disapointed by Ocean Studio's performance with the Gundam 00 dub. I wasn't tempering my feelings by saying good things about them, or hold some secret hate for Ocean Studios. It is a genuine disapointment I feel in regards to the 00 dub.

A list of shows I think were better? That would go on forever. So how about a list of shows Ocean Studios has done that I think were much better than their Gundam 00 dub?

Mobile Suit Gundam
Gundam Wing
Black Lagoon
Escaflowne
X-Men: Evolution
Soul Taker
Death Note
Zoids

These are all much better examples of what Ocean Studios can do, and do it well.

Why are you mentioning scenes cut out? Those are Syfy cuts to fit in their commercials, nothing to do with the dub.

Voices don't match the characters?!
Ali al-Saachez - Scott McNeill was perfect, who could have done a better job? He was killer sleaze personified.

Allelujah/Hallelujah - I think Ian Cox nailed him perfectly. Did you watch the episodes where he switches personalities?

Saji and Louise - come on, what more could you ask for?!

Patrick Colasour - perfect.

Setsuna - some people complain about the flatness of his performance - I think I'd be depressed/flat too if I realized that I'd been conned into shooting my parents by someone masquerading as a religious figure.

I could go on, but this is all subjective anyway.

As for accents, it's the 24th century, what makes you think anyone will have any sort of a regional accent? People complained about Lockon not having an Irish accent - WTF. Most of the younger Irish generation, at least the ones in the cities, already talk like Americans.

That's a nice list, but X-Men is not a dub, it's American.

I really feel for the people that do dubs, they just can't win. You mentioned in a earlier post that they followed the Japanese too much and should have spiced up the script, LOL. If they'd have done that people would be complaining about them straying from the Japanese.

It's not a redub but it is a dub. Even the Japanese audio is a dub. Perhaps not the way it's sometimes used, but technically correct.

Umm lets see, they cut out the shots of the dead child soldiers in episode 1, along with the opening scenes of one episode where Saji is trying to connect with Louise's mother. And yes the English is that BAD. The voices sound terrible, they sound as if it was done by amateurs or people who are not taking the show seriously.

I added X-Men just as an example of what Ocean Studio's is capable of performance wise. Since I think Evolution is the best X-Men cartoon to date.

I'm glad you were able to enjoy the 00 dub, but I just couldn't stomach most of it. As for what I said about them needing to change up the script a bit, I still stand by it. I think fewer people would complain if they had changed some of the wording around so it would flow better in English, than there is who complain about how awkward the dialog sounds at times.

People are always going to complain, thats just the nature of opinions. It is just a matter of balancing things in order to get the least amount.
