Nice reviews this week Erin! Light on the new DVD content though? That's a shame. Also no picture this week? I love looking at the shelves...damn... Anyway I just started watching Sasameki Koto since your review got me interested in it, and now you go and finish a BETTER yuri series! Damn you. Now I gata watch this one too, if it's even better.
I read Zac's winter preview review of Sasameki Koto when he wrote it, and that got me interested in it. But it was your review that actually made me go check it out, because you reminded me of it. Liked what u had to say about it, even though ur review was mostly mixed. I'm only on episode 3 because I watch stuff at a snails pace, but I am enjoying this so far.
Initial D looks like a decent series. I'll check it out if it ever airs on Funi on Demand, but I'm not ganna buy it.

Wow, there really haven't been any submissions for Shelf Obsessed? I've been meaning to send pics of mine, but after I do some reorganizing, since it's a mess. Although, I guess photos of a mess might be intriguing as well. Show people what not to do...

I'll send in a picture once my new stuff comes in. Traded in some of my favorite shows for the original sets ADV/Geneon sets. I had Funimation versions of them. Some of which looked horrible. Also had a package "delivered" with 3 DVD sets stolen or misplaced last week... Ugh.
Apparently I have to wait a month from the ship date with RightStuf. Then they'll send me claim papers and eventually re-ship the items. So, it's sounding like it'll be a nice 1 1/2 month process. :p Better than just being out of luck though.

Quote: | Bizarrely, the last episode never answers the question that the opening credits pose. I wonder if the manga continues the storyline. |
Trust me, it does. While the sauciness of the opening credits may be just metaphorical (for lack of a better word), it still foreshadows of things to come in their relationship.
Quote: | Sentai Filmworks should take note of the number of people in the thread who said they would buy Aoi Hana. |
Assuming that all the forumites that say they'll purchase Aoi Hana will stay true to their word when it happens (I get the impression that's not always the case), they're still only a small handful of people, and I think Sentai and other Anime companies focus on what will sell for them. I'm just saying, but I could be (hopefully) wrong about this one.

I've never submitted a photo before now because my collection is tiny compared to the epic accumulations of most others, but if no one else is doing it maybe now is my oppurtunity to strike like a shelf cobra.
Despite it not being at all similar to what I usually watch, I'm interested in Aoi Hana. With a lot of shows like this I get the feeling there's an underlying current of skeeviness to the whole thing, whereas Aoi Hana seems more.... genuine, somehow. I think it has something to do with the promotional material not making it obvious that this is a yuri show. I also really like the character designs.
Unfortunately, like Durarara I can't watch it legally because the Crunchyroll episodes aren't available in my country
I'm all for streaming anime as a means of stopping piracy, but if you don't live in America or the UK it's not that useful.

I was planning to take some pictures of my shelves of anime when I fill the second one. That should happen when my latest order arrives (it's been almost three weeks now, so it'll probably come with a huge ransom of taxes and additional shipping costs). Do you think two shelves is enough for a Shelf Life photo? It feels very small compared to the big collections we usually see there. Then again, many people cheat by having DVD singles instead of boxsets.
Anyway, I concur with your views on Initial D (I only watched part of the first season, just to see what the hype was about) and Aoi Hana (so pretty, and much too short).

Wow, one license rescue and no shelf pictures...
Any plans to rename this column Stream Life on a permanent basis? Because that definitely seems to be the direction it's moving in at this point.

Size has never really mattered in the past. I guess what matters is the story (if any) behind the collection or particular items. It's more about quality than quantity. If you're proud of your collection, then submit it anyway.
If all I had was my entire Cardcaptor Sakura collection (lol own TV series twice), then I'd surely submit a photo of that

Well, I'd buy it anyway. And Sentai put out Blue Drop, not sure how that did, but it seems plausible that they might pick up Aoi Hana as well.
The New Order reference was definitely apropos.
Anyway, hope Erin stays with the column however her video conference goes.

I said in the last line that I just got a big box of screeners in the mail. When I was writing this column I was still waiting for a shipment.

Clearly you didn't see the last line where she said she got in a big box of screeners, and I don't see why having a smaller column every now and then is a bad thing.
About Book of Bantorra, people are able to check out the books for a little bit but it seems that they still have to read them in the library (not surprising, we're talking about people's souls here) and it seems it's more of a way for people to remember the dead than someone picking out a random book. No idea how long it takes to read the whole thing though, I doubt anyone wants to relive someone's entire life and they probably skip to the juicy bits.
EDIT: Must've posted this mere seconds after Erin did, I swear I checked first!

Best of luck with the interview, Erin! Is the video conferencing thing kind of freaky or do you actually prefer that to doing an interview in meat space?

"Cheat"? I'm sure I must be misunderstanding you. As someone who has picked up less-expensive, space-saving sets only when double-dipping or when a series didn't interest me enough to order each volume as it was released, I'm... perplexed. Perhaps I'm in the clear because so many of my singles have been collected into official series artboxes - instant box set. Or do I get grandfathered in because the vast majority of my collection pre-dates the trend toward thinpaks? Y'know, back in the dark ages when the only way to get, say, Rurouni Kenshin was in, like, a full shelf of singles.
The suggestion that the purchase and display of any legitimate release is "cheating" - why does this bother me so? Can the term "size queen" be appropriately applied to one who prefers wee little box sets? Why do I shake my fist while the little voice in my head shrills, "Now get off my lawn"?
