Go Astro Boy! It didn't have that many B&M discounts.
That was expected for Ponyo. It's numbers prob got a boost from the Disney coupon and sales that were going on. When the sales ended, it dropped out the top 10. |

Huh. A movie tanks at the box office and makes 48% on the Tomatometer, then makes figures like this (whatever those actual figures are) on video? What does that say about it?
And does "#7 overall" mean combining DVD and BD sales? |

It means people wanted to watch it at home in as near theatre-like quality as possible but didn't want to be seen watching it in a theater like a guilty pleasure. (Or they just didn't feel it is worth paying theater price just to watch it once, but they'll wait on it on video to watch it as many times.) (Or of the people who watched it on theaters, a great portion liked it enough to also buy it on Blu-ray.) |

I find it very interesting that it didn't even place in DVD sales. It's one of those movies that people won't even consider watching in SD.

Because lots of people have BD players now. Like what happened with Toy Story and Toy Story 2 online. All the complaints about not being able to find BD packaging in a sea of DVD packaging for the DVD/BD combo release in B&M stores. |

This was budget priced up here, I didn't see a single store charging more than $15 for it.

#7 huh? That's too bad. I can only hope that those who bought it didn't do so on purpose.

I hope the IMAGI staff laid-off can benefit from the sales...

Astro Boy also made the top ten in Video-On-Demand:
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Rentrak-Announces-Top-Ten-prnews-1119661603.html?x=0&.v=1 I think word of mouth has helped this film in video sales. Too bad it came too late to help in the box office (at least here in the U.S. - I understand that Astro Boy actually did fairly well in the U.K.) I'm very happy with the movie's success in video; it's a wonderful film, one of the best I've seen when it comes to sheer fun, plus it's got a lot of heart and the animation is amazing. It's on my own personal top ten favorite animated movie list, right under The Lion King. |
