I just caught the dub
and I cried like a baby given only Kimi ga Nozomu Eien has moved me the most so far (haven't seen that many), spoiler[when Setsuko died, I was pretty much an emotional wreck for the rest of the film] is there another film someone can recommend, that will have the same impact as this left on me |

The two Barefoot Gen movies are the most similar titles to Grave of the Fireflies, both in story and emotional impact. The movies are about a boy - Gen - who survives the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima, and how he and others cope with the aftermath. I haven't watched them even though I own both; a lot of mental and emotinal preparation is needed, so I've been told.

I had a look at the reviews on IMDB, and that film sounds like something else, to the point that the realism is scarily realistic

The author of the Manga that the movies were based on was actually a Hiroshima survivor, so the story is kind of (as in, loosely) an autobiography. At any rate, he does really know for sure what an atomic bombing is like, so the experience is authentic.
Definitely movies to watch with a box of hankies next to you. |
