Why did in the ADV version of the Chrno Crusade manga change Azmaria’s song? Is it because of some sort of Engrish mix up that change the song a little? I'm not all that familar with Chirstian songs and stuff...so anyone want to fill me in as to why it changed other than hearing the usual 'Stupid American company' Razz

The original was:
Star of Bethlehem, star on high. Miracle Love of mid-night sign. Let your luminous light from heaven enter our hearts. Star of happiness, star of wonder. You see everything from afar. Fill with love the age of man. Oh light oh hory (holy) light, oh light divine.

ADV’s version:
Star of Bethlehem, star up high. Miracle of the midnight sky. Let your luminous light of heaven better our hearts and make us fly. Star of happiness, star of wonder. You see everything from afar. You who’ve lived through endless ages view with love the age of man. Oh light, oh holy light, oh light devine.

It appears to be simply a more lyrical translation. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it.

Was the original written out in English, or is that a translation you saw somewhere? Translation is not an exact science, and is often left up for interpretation depending on the experience of the translator. Also, the meaning is pretty much the same, just changes made for a more lyrical flow.

I saw the original, and Lemharth is right, it was written originally in English with Japanese translating it under each line. The only reasons I can think of that they would do that is that they didn't like it, so changed it a bit to make more sense, or the original song, if there is one that CC used, is what they used.

They've also taken out one of Rossette's Engrish 'DAM!' and changed that to 'Crap' but eh...I don't really care much about that.

It's just the rewording of the song when it's already there is plane English. If anything I thought that they would keep it the way it is, because in later parts of the manga they left in alot of the Japanese. I just don't get it, maybe it's like what littlegreenwolf said and they changed it to fit an orignal song or something...it just all seems really pointless...

Well my guess is that the original seems to be making the star out to be some sort of magical power, if looked at closely, and if this manga is appealing to Christians, then we wouldn't want anything like that, especielly when talking about a symbolic star. They might have been doing this simply not to make anyone get offended and not buy more of the manga. That's just my opinion, of course.

If they were so worried about that they probably wouldn't of licensed the manga seeing that it's about a nun who's binded her soul with her *cough*possible boyfriend*cough* demon, and well, there's a lot of stuff in there that I can tell you that some devot Catholics may not like.

I think this is all just needlessly splitting hairs, and is actually pretty ridiculous.

Well, I haven't read the any of the series, I'm just saying what I think may be a reason, but based on what I recently read, I'd say they really had no reason to change the song, at all.

The only thing I would thought them to change would be 'hory' but...so much for 'keeping their manga true to the orignal'. First they shrink it and now reword stuff already in English Rolling Eyes

Oh well at least I can get an English version to go with my Japanese version....
