I guess even the Death Note creator has a penchant for literary classics. I thought he was referring to Canadian or English classics until I read this. I wonder what the anime is going to be about?

Cool. I guess it will probably be one of the books he did a cover for.
Shueisha is doing a whole line of classic novels with covers done by Jump artists. Tite Kubo also did a cover for Jigoku Hen as well as another novel, and Hirohiko Araki, Hiroyuki Asada, and Takeshi Konomi have also been involved. |

Well technically, the article doesn't mention what sort of literary classic Obata's working character designs for. It mentions some Japanese books he's done illustrations for before but that doesn't necessarily mean this yet to revealed book title is also Japanese. Though, to be honest, the chances that it is a Japanese book is higher than anything else. I'm not holding my breath here but if it were an adaptation of one of Fyodor Dostoevsky's works.. that would be incredible. "Lord of the Flies" might be cool too but personally I'd rather Naoki Urasawa do the character designs for a LOTF adaptation (Urasawa is pretty damned good at that whole cuteness/innocence corrupted sort of thing) I wish "Ender's Game" and "Good Omens" could be in the running but they're not really old or popular enough to be considered literary classics yet. Still, anime versions of both of those would be glorious news. |

Pretty much zero percent, but I've always wanted to see some Faulkner with some visual backdrops. Quentin's part of The Sound and the Fury would be particularly awesome, has a lot of great imagery and a fantastic story.

*proudly displays avatar of Dmitri Karamazov* Awesome, I was thinking of Dostoevsky too... but yeah, going by how's he's only worked with only classic japanese works, it could all to well be another one. Still, I would just love to see some adaptation of Dostoevsky, at least on Japan's own "masterpiece theater" (or whatever it's called) for anime. Has there been anything related to him anime/manga-wise since Tezuka's obscure adaptation of Crime and Punishment? |

Twilight was only made in the 2000's, not REALLY long ago, so I don't think Twilight's getting the manga treatment. |

LULZ now that would be just awful.......and impossible. Twilight is too badly written to become a classic in this or ANY century! Although, the fangirls may beg to differ...... (they should go read Wuthering Heights or something lol) |
