It seems like a live action adaption of Satoshi's Paprika may be in the works.

I'm always cautious with live action adaptions but I'm always interested in seeing if it'll actually get going into production and who'd they get working on it.

I wish I could claim cautious optimism, but I'm afraid I'm stuck at devastating pessimism. Great film, I'll be amazed if it makes it through adaptation without looking cheesey (though thoroughly pleased).

.....Of all the things to turn into a live action movie, Paprika?! I'm sorry, but this has bad idea written all over it. It will be absolutely amazing if they pull it off, but...my hopes aren't that high, unfortunately.

Oho, and something else in that article caught me eye - producing "A Spell for Chameleon," eh? I don't want to go on a rant about it here, because this is an anime forum, and not a fantasy novel forum, but fans of the Xanth series, such as myself, have been waiting for that movie for quite a while. Last I'd heard, Warner Bros. had let their contract on it expire. I think somebody needs to stop giving WB all of these movie rights, heh. Well, if Paprika does get made into a live action movie, hopefully it'll come out faster than A Spell for Chameleon... although maybe it'd be better if it got put on a seemingly indefinite hiatus too. Won't know until I see it, I guess.

I'm only keeping with the cautious optimism because the guy trying to get it done was the director of the Never Ending Story, which is one of my all time favorite films. I know it wasn't a truly faithful book adaption, and maybe my sentimentality is popping up, but I'll give him a chance. Just would like to see who else he could get on the project first before I decide to call it blasphemy.

Am I right in thinking they're working from the book rather than from the anime? Dreams can be done well on film, melty faces (ala anime) not so much.
