Interesting concept.
Though it kind of reminds you what actually happens when you actually date someone from different political parties. Though I'm curious how the Japanese political party differs or has similarities to our broken political system. |

It would be nice to know the exact dialogue spoken in the video. I guess I have to google it to find out... (what did the woman say?)
I really like the style of the animation. Looks better than some of the recent stuff I've been watching. |

The gist of the ad seems to be that the man is promising the woman that he will be able to care for their family's medical bills, child rearing and education costs, retirement, etc. The woman asks how he will be able to afford that, and the man says he'll think of that after the marriage. The woman responds with, "wha?"
The LDP is saying that Japan will not be able to afford all the social programs the DPJ is promising, just as Republicans in the US say the same about the Democrats' plans. Unfortunately, like the Republicans, the LDP hasn't exactly been a shining beacon of fiscal responsibility in recent history either. EDIT: Damn acronyms. This is still a pretty new phenomenon, most likely due to the fact that the demographic is comparatively small and the fact that Aso was the first to capitalize on it three years ago. The cartoon is like any other electoral stunt - pandering.
I'm sure this is just an innocent typo, but you meant that the LDP has been fiscally irresponsible like the Republicans, right?
I'll begin by noting that I am not a political scientist by education, training or profession. If anything, reading about polical systems and parties is merely a hobby, so anyone remotely trained in the field is about to see some broad generalizations but I think these sum-up nicely the thoughts Chrno2 had... The Japanese parliamentary system differs a fair bit from the typical US Federal political system; however, the main parties can be mostly likened to main parties in the US. The Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, which has been the mainstay of political power for the past sixty years, can mostly be likened to the US Republican Party (complete with it's own faction of religious zealots). As of late, the Democratic Party of Japan, a center-left party, the leader of the opposition, has been challenging the LDP mostly on the stance of "we're not the LDP", which I personally beleive is what we've seen between powershifts in the US from 2006 to current. There's actually a great similarity in each of the parties, and this probably more of a cynic's view of the whole situation, is that it seems while the DPJ and LDP each have their own platforms that the party tends to run on, most individual politicians are very non-descript with what they want to do; usually running on slogans like "For a better Japan!" and the like. Also, it's been said that the parties share a great deal of ineptitude, much like a lot of our own politicians and parties.

One hopes that, if this was made with otaku in mind, they won't make much of an issue of the animation quality. Although this advertisement effectively jests at the opposition and their policies, thus making a low-budget animation style befitting for the tone, it's not much of a homage to what one would typically connote with anime. I'd fathom it's aimed at a general audience more than any discernible fanbase, which I believe is the norm. |
