Embarrassingly, I actually own a copy of Chubby Cherub. I only purchased it because (a) it was a cheap pickup at GameStop (back when the chain sold NES games), and (b) I have this fetish for picking up obscure video game titles.

I can't really make any firm agreement as to how bad Chubby Cherub is, since I've only played my copy for a combined total of two minutes... tops.

In the games, gold-hearted mobster Kiryu can realistically fritter away his evenings in luxurious bars, flirting with women who, somewhat unrealistically, seem to actually like him.

Hey, if he can break the ice with a tough-as-nails female cop in the last game, he can score with any chick.

Quote:
Sega recently invited women all over Japan to submit their photos and profiles, and one lucky winner will appear as a club hostess in the next Yakuza (or Ryu ga Gotoku, as it's known in Japan). Of course, only a few women responded.

Maybe they're still waiting for the game to be announced.

Quote:
No, I'm lying. Over 1,500 women sent in applications to be Kiryu's next beguiling money-sink, and Sega narrowed that crop down to 16 finalists. The public can vote for them at this official site, which even features audition videos for each contestant.

I knew it. Chicks know a real man when they see one. Cool Anyway, it's probably less of a hassle than working in a real hostess club.

Quote:
Oh, and while you're at it, hope that Sega still hasn't given up on bringing Yakuza games to North America.

Even if they bring in the new one, there might not be much luck with that spin-off. Sad And as far as I'm concerned, we can never have too many samurai games.

'BAYONETTA, NOOOOOOOOOO!!!
It was supposed to come out on my birthday. Well, not really a game I'd play but I was really looking forward to seeing what the creator of 'DMC' had up his sleeve.

Glad to see 'Valkyria Chronicles' getting a sequel. I'm also looking forward to seeing 'RIZ-ROAWD'. Should prove interesting but we'll have to wait and see. Any issues, gameplay-wise, or aestetic-wise will drive people away. So chances are it will appeal to those who want to try something "niche".

I definitely think that Bayonetta was delayed to give it a better shot considering there are several high profile games coming out in November and gunning for Christmas. By the time January rolls around people will have played through their games from Christmas and be looking for something new. I would have preferred it sooner than later, but I can understand. It's a new title so everything hinges on getting this first one to sell.

I'm glad about the sequel to Valkyria Chronicles. It's beyond me why this awesome game didn't enjoy much sales in the west with all the lauding reviews and the original premise. Hope the anime had managed to entice more people to buy it.

At first, I thought Sega's choice to release it on the PSP might be due to them not wanting to put much money and efforst in to it this time around, but reading an interview by the creators assuaged my worries for now. Their decison of the backward leap from the PS3 to the PSP might be due to them hoping for more sales.

VC2: That's good news for me, especially since i have yet to play the first Valkyria (don't own a PS3 sadly). I really want to play the first one though. And watch the anime.

Riz-Zoawd: I have to admit, I really want to see Dorothy and co. fight RPG-style. Funny you mention the Oz manhwa; it may be really non-canonical, but it's enjoyable Anime hyper

Badman: Todd, stop mentioning killing lizards. I love lizards. You don't like lizards, do you Todd? Sad

That Shota screenshot, though, oh my god Anime hyper

Chubby Cherub: Anyone else also notice Cherub has that same vacant open-mouthed stare the entire game? Yet again, we see another example of the U.S.'s stupidity with localizing games, even if it's an obscure one. We never learned, and we still don't get it. Chubby Cherub? God D=

Because they made the mistake of not adding blood and pushing it as a Call of Duty spinoff.

Call Of Duty: The Valkyria Chronicles. Suddenly its the number one selling game for months.

Ah, that new Tekken costume just makes me bemoan the fact that they gave CLAMP Jin Kazama's alternative costume instead of a girl. But no, instead of an uber cute CLAMP creation for Xiaoyu we get bizzaro cosplay-wannabe Jin.

At least Masashi Kishimoto's Tekken submission looks decent.

Still, so looking forward to the new Tekken game. As a girl, I've always loved alternate costumes (spent waaay too much time on Soul Caliber's new costume creation/character creations feature) and the fact that they're pulling in tons of my fave Manga-ka to design costumes to one of my favorite fighting franchises has me putting down money pre-sale.

And... why are you ragging on American McGee's non-existant Wizard of Oz game? Ok, don't really care, but when you say the XSEED game is surprisingly faithful, do you mean faithful to the movie, or the books? Cause I really don't give a damn about a game based off the movie, but if it follows the books I might just give it a try. The movie and the actual book(s) are two completely different things.

Except for the fact Elizabeth(Gintama) obviously has feet. Although they do look the same, there is a small difference.

belvadeer: Look at the date that game was made, 1983. Back in the 80's, the market was much diffrent. I'll agree that the game looks quite odd, but then again, it was made during the 80's.

Interesting article though Todd. I look forward to reading next week's article as usual.

I actually have the Famicom Q-taro game. Not very interesting. Dusted off my NES so I can play my old Famicom games with an adapter, including Macross.
