This is seriously awesome. I'm really impressed with how good it looks. Even thou its so big it looks like they still paid close attention to detail. They also did a really nice job with the colors too.

With the economy the way it is, Japan doesn't have the Yen to build an anime museum to, "preserve and restore valuable original manga drawings from continuing degradation", but instead definitely has enough money to build a 60 foot Gundam statue. Confused
Seems a bit strange to me. Still awesome tho. Very Happy

Thought according to Kyodo, Bandai was flipping the bill on this thing.

I'm kind of wondering about the design, actually. The overall mecha design seems to lean heavily on the '90s revisions for the PG and MG model kits, but certain elements, like the chest thrusters, appear to be a straight adaptation of its appearance in the '79 anime.

Actually, I'd kind of like to see them release a kit of this version, though that might not happen since they just came out with new versions in HGUC and MG scales within the last year...

Gundam statue nearing completion.
What's next? The infamous Zaku model statue to counter the Gundam?

Hell yeah if it's true!

Since this is a model of the completed Gundam, I doubt there will be a beam rifle.

True, but I wasn't really referring to how close it looks to the original TV series.

Wow's that pretty damn cool looking. I wouldn't really be surprised if it suddenly started walking around during the actual ceremony.

Japan Banzai.

...Do you think it also uses the PS3's Cell Processor? Very Happy

The statue is not complete, despite the misinformation in English-language blog reports. The other website's article is based on an widely repeated English-language visitor's blog, but the Japanese news sources do not say it is complete.

According to the Mainichi Shimbun newspaper source that is linked in the ANN article, the statue is not quite finished, as of Tuesday. There are still some features yet to be implemented.

Regardless, if they continue until completion with the same attention to detail, the end result will be quite alluring. I would love to see it in person.

Two months isn't somewhat short for an icon like this. I hope the Gundam goes on tour after then. On a whim, they could build a customised decotora to resemble the White Base in which to store it during transit!
