Good for her. It's been tough breaking out in the U.S., but the fact that she got an "in" is indicative of how shitty our music is ATM, since people are willing to try anything to escape the garbage they try to make popular here.

Thats cool for her to chart. I didn't think she'd do that well. Has she been played on MTV or the radio yet?

Hey maybe they will celebrate this by making a new Odin movie.

Though I doubt Utada could ever make a song as awesome as "Gotta Fight"

Interesting, though I wonder what qualifies the Japanese part. I mean, yeah, she's Japanese by heritage, but she's American by birth and her label is American-owned?

That's really cool. ^^ Now if only other Japanese bands could break in here in America. They are touring and/or making appearances here (Dir en Grey and OreSkaBand toured around for awhile, and then at cons bands make appearances all the time, sometimes even American debuts like what HalCali did for A-Cen in 2008), so Japanese music is becoming a little more known in the music market here.

Now if only Time Warner's Music Choice on Demand will fix their darn video thing to show the RIGHT video. They show that it's Utada's Come Back To Me on their list, but when I select it...it's some darn rap video that I care nothing about (and writing in complaints haven't fixed it yet -_-).

Well she had to sign to an American label to try and make it here. Look at how BoA is doing with her Korean Record label. And I think that she more then qualifies as a Japanese artist.

#69? That's very impressive for a foriegn artist. Utada's done quite well here with both digital and physical media, though I'm not sure if it's enough to open the door for other Japanese artists with U.S.-favorable styles. I suppose some big-name stars here will have to take a strong, active interest in them.

Quite impressive indeed. And much better than the 160 her last album got.

BoA seemed to fair better digitally. IIRC both artists albums were in the top 20 on itunes in the US around release. But according to billboard, the hardcopies of BoA's album only reach #127. I wonder if this was effected by a lack of copies on the shelves though. I do recall (atleast locally around here), that not everywhere carried it, and during that first week, many of the places that did carry it were sold out first day or two.

Good job and congratulations to her. I'll have to track down the album. I like Hikaru Utada anyway.

All the more impressive considering she got next to no promotion.

Aww.. I didn't know that there were going to be bonus tracks on the physical cds Sad . I bought mine on iTunes in March, and was surprised that she was on the Top Sellers list when I checked it out (I didn't see her in the top 20 (which would have been cool to see), it was a couple of weeks after it was released and she was in the top 100 on iTunes at the time and I was surprised and happy for her Smile ). Now I'm a gonna have to think about getting the physical cd for the bonus tracks.

Congrats to her! Though I agree with Kiriska about the japanese part. I could see that if it was a japanese album or had some japanese songs on it but it's a 100% english album specifically made for the North American market. *shrugs*

I've still yet to buy the album because I haven't found any place that sells it>< Guess I'll have to order it online. . .
