I was wondering who "Filipino Bill" was for a few seconds before it finally clicked.

6 to 12 years for having cartoon drawings.

Oh yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

Now if they have real CP on them, then go ahead and throw them in jail.

The article title is a little misleading in my opinion. If they're going to ban child hentai then wouldn't it make more sense to say that in the title? I know that in the article they mentioned it as hentai, and there was an explanation regarding the term and how they've mislabeled it in the Phillipines, but I still think that people will get confused when they see the title and then read the actual article.

Note how they use a broad term like "hentai anime" to refer to child porn, not just loli/shota anime. This isn't a simple mislabeling; this same thing invariably happens everywhere else too (ex: moral crusaders in Russia decrying Ikkitousen as "pedophilic", despite its extremely voluptuous visual style). They always claim they're only after child porn, but they do as much as they can to keep things vague enough to end up ensnaring normal porn too.

People always try to dodge criticism by claiming that their porn is "normal" hentai anime and not loli/shota anime, but the truth is that moral censors don't care about the difference. They don't even _want_ to know the difference. To them all Japanese cartoon porn is the same, and everyone who likes any of it is a dirty pedo as guilty as those who abuse real children.

No need to worry, folks. Adults-only anime is illegal in Taiwan for decades (for the record, adults-only manga is legal; don't ask me why), yet everyone knows where to get them, and I'm not talking about downloading. Twisted Evil

Nice move by the Filipino government. Those penalties seem fair, also, which is good.

Perhaps, other nations are taking notes and will follow suit. Animated child porn in no way positively contributes to global society, but in countless ways negatively affects global society and cultures.

If judgements like these eventually leads to the killing off of the child-over-sexualization aspect of Japan's anime and hentai industries, GOOD RIDDANCE! Wink

Funny thing is, such laws themselves are immoral.

How does that apply to the Philippines? Anyway Taiwan is a special case & I mean that in a good way (I lived there in the 70s & liked it a lot). And it's going to go on being a special case until the day the pla marches in. Not soon one hopes.

These catch-all laws are a precursor of worse to come imho. We should be scared, I am scared ..... we've got the same idiot pc ambitious stupid politicians doing the same things here in the UK.

Look behind the bill & someone will be trying to make their rep on this - bet on it. God I hate these hypocrites.

This puts the Philippines in the same boat as us: The risk of victimless acts becoming punishable crimes being a genuine one.
Somebody I know on another forum made quite an insightful comment on this sort of bill:
Quote:
Is it a child protection law aimed at tackling child abuse? Yes it is. Is there academic proof that the proposed measures would tackle child abuse? No there isn't. So what are we talking about? If a law does not fulfil its purpose, there is no need for it.

I believe his point was that laws like this are unenforceable and have little to no effect on anyone.

Exactly. Bootleg DVDs and porn are illegal, but they're still here.

ETA:

Now that I've read the relevant links, the bill is defining child pornography as depicting persons/characters under 18 engaging in sexual activity, not just loli/shota stuff. Standard procedure and the reason for so many uniformed "college" students in H anime released by U.S. companies.
