Well that's interesting. I think his conviction had more to do with the live child porn than the animated stuff though.

Was that pornographic...? (Personally, I don't really care, but it seems like you're being over dramatic)
It appears Canada's laws concerning this are actually stricter than US laws. Who woulda thought?

That depends on what the uncut version looks like.

"Civil disobedience is the active refusal to obey certain laws, demands and commands of a government, or of an occupying power, without resorting to physical violence. It is one of the primary tactics of nonviolent resistance. In its most nonviolent form (known as ahimsa or satyagraha) it could be said that it is compassion in the form of respectful disagreement.
Civil disobedience is one of the many ways people have rebelled against unfair laws."

Watch the FULLY uncut episode 7 bath scene on DVD.....that's all that is needed to say
Here's my question....what counts as under 18 in anime? Especially considering that anyone could draw 18 year old people as the size of lolis.....*cough*Lucky Star*cough* This also includes vice-versa where those at the age of 16 and 17 in the anime can be slightly modified to look like they are 18 and over.
Also, my other question is, does possession of the Kodomo no Jikan manga from Japan actually count as child porn then? Especially the more recent chapters/volumes? This is an incredibly gray area.
I find it ironic that US and Canada are trying to increase consumer spending to revive the economy, yet hinder at the same time.....
Anime is an incredibly large gray area when it comes to porn. What you do in your private home is different from what you do in public. The law/government should not be intervening for what you do at home. Now, if you were trying to pick up an 8 year old and you're 20, that's something the law should be able to intervene for the safety of the 8 year old. However, deciding what you watch, read, view, etc... at home is another story and that invades one's privacy.

Does crunchyroll stream to Canada? They have Strike Witches, I noted when I was going through some of their anime last night. I have no idea if it is uncut or not though.

I'm Canadian and I do not support the notion that somehow drawings are equally harmful as child abuse. I have to say I'm disappointed that my government thinks otherwise. I would like to believe that this is not a place where a regime of idealistic twits would be so manipulative but until this is met with a challenge I fear how far this policy will reach into art or what have you.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions. I reckon there needs to be an investigation to see if there's more to this than just those.
EDIT: That aside I support locking them away if they have anything criminal to do with actual child abuse.

More than likely, it was one of the boku no pico ovas. They're really graphic and I wouldn't be suprised if somone was convicted over them.

One day art will be free from government restrictions once again. In the meantime, George Orwell's 1984 is here and even worse than he imagined.

Wait, wut? IIRC, the courts found the Protect Act to be unconstitutional, and that he's just being charged for obscenity.

Only one part of it.
