Was Funimation asked about the possibility of licensing the new FMA series coming out in April? or will we have to wait until the summer to find out some more information?

At this point, the late summer is the best estimate that Sheehan was able to make regarding when it would actually become available.

Isn't it less than a half an hour of material in total? That seems like an awfully long time to work on it. And you know they'll still charge $30 for it like they did with the Burst Angel ova.

Not necessarily. The School Rumble OVA was only $20.

At Ohayocon, Sheenan said that they don't have the license yet, but they're "working on it". I think it's a sure bet that they'll get it, perhaps sometime between now and AX2009 I would predict.

Come to think of it, after reading this report, this is sort of like a carbon copy of FUNi's panel at Ohayocon last weekend.

Well that sounded like a waste of time, I was really hoping they would announce who the D. Gray Man voice actors are (I don't believe that they already have) and wish that they had forgone the "state of the industry address" for saying what the new releases are. Seriously, why does every company feel like they have to say the same things every time, I'd rather see that they are still doing strong by hearing about what else they have, not by hearing them say they're going to be okay.

FUNi remains the warm sun in these cold dark days of anime fandom. Long may it last, but I have a little niggling pang in the back of my neck that says, "it's dangerous to have all your eggs in one basket". I keep telling it "it's fine, don't worry." Wink

The only real threat with them is the possibillity of the parent going under which personally I think is less likely to happen now that they've restructured a bit. Of all the anime companies, Funimation has the most varied means of getting money from it's series and they've got a steady stream of Dragon Ball related money coming in. It's unthinkable they wouldn't get the next FMA, which will likely be a success. Things aren't as nice as they should be but they've got their act together much more than the other companies right now.

I'm worried too but they appear to be remarkably unphased by all the economic troubles and have shown few signs of even being affected by the Best Buy and friends anime reduction. (From what I've read, they get far more of their sales from online and smaller retailers already than the other companies so B&M reductions have affected them less.)

I'm sure they'll give us a decent price on the FMA OVA disc. The School Rumble OVA disc was well-priced (got mine for less than $15 brand new) and clearly they don't think it should be priced at the max.

FUNimation is a company I think will keep going strong. They seem to be willing to adapt to the marketplace as well as combating the more illicit means of anime acquisition. Though it was nice to hear their plans for the immediate future, I was hoping they'd talk about some of their other, newer licenses. I wanted to hear about their plans for Rebuild 1.0, and whether or not they'll do a Blu-ray or super special awesome limited edition of it. Still, at least they're not showing any signs of slowing down.

I agree. I'm still waiting for news other than "We have it!!". It kills me having to wait forever just to find out a release date. Heck, I'm still waiting for a release date for the When They Cry boxset. Confused

It's rather annoying.

IIRC, the Eva section in the Funi website says "Nov. 2009".
