We all know that there is a huge problem with bootlegged anime. But has there ever been a problem with manga? Manga is so much cheaper that I can't see why anyone would buy a bootleg.
I'm assuming that there isn't, but I thought I'd ask. |

There is, just not in the same sense... some people will sell scanlations on CD format. While I don't think the problem is as nearly as bad as with DVD's, it's still not giving the authors or companies the royalties or money that rightfully belongs to them.

I heard that there are some countries in asia that do so, and a while back there was a big issue with manga scripts or something being bootleged.

So far the only real problem that I have seen in terms of manga is bootlegged art books - but for them, if they are new and the price seems too good to be true, then it probaly is.
I have seen some very good looking bootlegs - but they tend to show their real colors when you open them up and look at the art work - it tends to be on the fuzzy side. I've yet to see a bootleg manga, mostly CDs with scanned pages on them. |

WHile I will admit I did haft to bootleg the digimon anime that was because they didn't release them on vcd or dvd or tape in america. I don't know if what I'm doing with the v-tamer manga is bootleg or not though. I am adapting the v-tamer manga because it isn't in english yet. [EDIT - Sorry, no scanilations. Read the rules. -C] is where its at.

ha! if any of yous been to china or any other asian countrie, probably include malaysia etc. there are just so may suspicious looking manga, i seen some really suspicious doreamon ones when i was young, i mean they are cheap, really really thin paper, franky i'll be surprised if they arent bootlegs or at least semi-illegal copies (if there is such a thing).

Freddy, not to be rude, but I see that you've gone on yet another one of your mini posting sprees. I don't mind seeing you contribute to the forums, but when you make several posts within 10 minutes it hurts your grammar (see your run-on sentence above.) Could you please try to watch all those grammar errors, thanks. Sorry for getting off topic and I apologize if it sounds like I’m attempting to be a mod. I just wanted to offer some friendly advice. |

Okay, this one here will be error free, but was the only things wrong above capital letters? That's the only wrong thing I can spot...

That would be "were the only things" Freddy. Grammar check.

Besides capitalization and fixing the run-on sentence, there were things such as "yous", "countrie", and "i seen some really suspicious" (should be "I have seen some...."). And that only includes errors from one of your posts. I know there are more errors in the others topics which were included in your posting spree, but since i'm not perfect at grammar, I don't want nor do I feel that I need to point them all out. I just wanted to bring it to your attention. Thanks for understanding |

Ok, so I guess the answer to my question was either yes, or probably. Wow, I thought manga were cheap enough. Even I can afford them, but bootlegs do exist.
Of course I was refering to actual physical books, not scans on the internet. |

Okay, thanks for the pionters on grammar.
About scans not being bootlegs, that's probably how they get a lot of the bootleg manga books from I think, would suprise me. |

Other then the selling of scanlations on cd on ebay, I have yet to see scanlations sold in book format. |

No what I meant was that the companies bootlegging manga probably gets their manga pics from published manga, therefore it's unlicenced stuff and it's also a bit like scans since they scan the images and publish them.
