|
Just curious is there any other decent anime news sites out there? Just getting kinda tired of coming across the super-opinionated panning of decent anime that occurs every other week with the articles published here. I would just like to get my info on new licenses, etc. minus the pretentious snobbery if that's possible. xD

From what I've observed, things are usually reported on ANN the fastest, followed by what was Anime on DVD. But ever since they merged with Mania, I've found their site navigation to be atrocious. So take your pick -- ANN's speed with a slight hint of snobbery, or "Mania dot com's" slightly slower, but more bulky, almost unreadable layout that's lost the touch of what was once a pretty good anime site by itself.

So basically, you're looking for a review site that agrees with you all the time.
Sometimes reviewers will have different opinions than yours. Get over it. |

1) Don't read the articles. 2) Don't browse the talkback threads. And there you have it. There's absolutely no opinion injected in the actual frontpage news items themselves. There's probably sites that get certain news pieces out faster than ANN, but as for catching pretty much all of the anime related news items on a consistent basis, I don't know anywhere else than ANN. |

If you just read ANN's news (you know, the press releases and stuff) and not the columns then it's pretty straight forward news. And I enjoy the reviews and columns on ANN. Although I don't always agree with them, they tend to give a do article every time.

I guess you could try sankaku complex if you can deal with the sheer amount of creepy pervertness there and AoD used to be ok until recently. Anime nation usually gets their news from here from what I can tell and any lesser known blog type place you go too will be 1000 times more opinionated than ANN.
But did you really come here to find other places to go? ANN usually is the best place and seems to have a good relationship with the industry itself. |

You can also try Anime-Source but still, not only did that seem to be a rather blunt way to put what you said, and not only was it insulting a bit to the reviewers, but that is indeed your opinion of it, and if you have that opinion, then i'm not really sure what you're looking for. The point of a review is to have an opinion, it allows the reviewer to see parts of a show much more clear... if you didn't have an opinion, it'd be much harder to pick out things about a show, and then it'd be hard to write a review based on it... neutrality i believe, doesn't really go hand in hand in reviews. So... yeah. I like the nature of the reviews here for the same reason you dislike them. Strange.

Now that I think about it, the only other place that I've ever bothered to get anime information from is Anime World Order and the Podcast. Of course that's pretty opinionated. I still stand by my statement earlier, that there is no other anime news serves out there quite as high quality as ANN (that I'm aware of).

Personally, I would just ask if there were any other anime news sites, and not say why you want to know, because it was a b-i-t untactful. Though I guess it is still good information to know. Also you can also go on some blogs like, Japanator...they released some info. before ANN got around to it, if that helps.

I've still found ANN to be the best anime news site out there.. I find it to be quite un-biased actually.. just the news straight up.

As others have said, the reviews are only one facet of ANN's content output...so if you don't care for them, you can easily ignore them and focus on the front-page articles, Encyclopedia, and official press releases. |

Yes it's just hidden under a layer of creepy pervertness. Some interesting articles about japan there but I just can't deal with it most times. |

Well then I'm confused, because isn't news unbiased? (Ok sure, that's not always true ._.) but here I don't see a problem with news being biased, it's basically "X got released from X" or "X just blah blah" not "X is amazing and super cool and they just relased X" o_o Unless you just wanted a news site with reviews and stuff like that, which you can just accomplish by not looking at the reviews. |

That was extremely rude and uncalled for. The ANN NEWS is about as unbiased as you can get. I've never once seen a blatant opinion inserted into the news, though I only read articles that I find relavent to me. The REVIEWS on the other hand have some things I disagree with. I don't expect everyone to agree with me, though. If you want a site that agrees with you 100%, you'll have to make it yourself. |
