I have used the forum search engine and searched the words 'Code Geass." Neither of the two pages of threads had a thread similar to this.

I am getting volumes one and two of the series this Christma, and am wondering peoples opinions on the manga only. (I am also getting volume one of "Code Geass : Suzaku of the Counterattack")
I hear the series is comparable to "Death Note" intellectually?

NO SPOILERS, ONLY OPINIONS AND COMPARISONS.[/b]

I haven't heard much that was good about the manga, which isn't a surprise since it's manga based off anime and those usually are sub-par ways to make more money off a series. I'm slightly interested in the Suzaku manga and maybe the Nunnally one (both of which I believe are licensed, though I could be wrong about the latter), because of focus on different characters, but I'm not going to be rushing out to buy them.

My friend, Meneil, said that the Lelouch manga is very solid, mimicly near flawlessly what the anime is doing. She said she hasn't touched the Suzaku one, though, so we'll see how this goes.

True, just look at the Cowboy Bebop manga, that was disappointing. Anyways I haven't bothered to read the manga for this very reason, but I've heard that Code Geass - Nightmare of Nunnally is pretty good. I might be checking it out soon.

its good so far lelouch is very similar as is kallen however its mainly just them no black knights also no nightmare frames

also im kinda hoping this one won't end like the series because i spoiler[like my heroes alive and not martered i was kinda annoyed that it didn't show him faking his death or something which i think is more his charter at the end i think they diverged more from what he was like so im not as happy]

also im looking forward to the nightmare of nunnaly one i wish they would hurry and push these out already

I thought this too at first, however after thinking about it some I realized why it had to end the way it did. spoiler[For one, to have the biggest impact, a public death was necessary. Perhaps you could make it public and still fake it, but by being stabbed through the chest in public, there is absolutely no question. Second, in the flashback to his conversation with Suzaku, he talks about being under the Geass of the people's wish. And finally, after being stabbed he says to Suzaku, "This is punishment for you too." Remember that Lelouch takes the idea of anti-hero to the extreme - he did some very despicable things and this is his atonement for it. In the end, he willingly paid the price for the methods he used, even if his goal was a noble one. This is most in-character for him and he had been preparing for it ever since the first season (walking the "path of carnage", planning to pair Nunally with Suzaku in his absence). From the beginning his goal was to destroy and recreate the world. Any sense of self-preservation was only to meet that goal. The only thing out-of-character I see in this is that he wanted to create a world for his sister - however all she wanted/needed was for him to be in the world. Either he didn't realize this or he realized it was incompatible with what he had to do.]

Despite all that, it doesn't mean I liked the ending on an emotional level or that it didn't make me cry Anime cry

I like all three of the mangas. But depending on your tastes, you may or may not like them. Each one has a different tone or feeling and also differs from the story.

Lelouch Of The Rebellion - This is not, I repeat is not, exactly the same as the anime. For one, there is no Knightmare Frames, so there is a lot less action. Some of the events are also different, or do not happen for that matter. The characters are NOT exactly the same. Some characters (Like Cornelia) do not exist. I would have to say there is a lot more humour in the manga too. Also, if you hate Kalulu as a pairing, don't read it. It seems like that Kallen is who Lelouch will get paired with.

Suzaku Of The Counterattack - Okay, I have not input on this cause I haven't read it yet. No Knightmares Frames once again. It has a completely different ending than the anime. If you are a Suzaku X Euphie fan, don't read cause Euphie is a no-show. But, if you've wanted a happy ending for Lulu, read it!

Nightmare of Nunnally - This is by far the most epic one of the three. I REALLY recommend it. It is an AU (Alternate Universe) manga, meaning a lot of things are different. There is Knightmare Frames, New Characters, and Geass abilities that go beyond mind affecting. This is if Nunnally got Geass instead. Though, if you like pairings and romance, don't read it cause there is none.

Lelouch of the Rebellion and Nightmare of Nunnally are still running while Suzaku of the Counterattack has ended. I suggest reading all of them.

I got my first 2 Volumes of LotR (Lelouch of the Rebellion) with the boxsets. I still haven't gotten my Vol. 1 of SotC (Suzaku of the Counterattack)

It really depends. I shop at a small comic bookstore and Chapters but I can't say those will be near you or always work (I tried pre-ordering SotC Vol. 1 and I waited over a month but it didn't come in, they just cancelled my order instead.)
