I take it you've seen Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Abridged Series? If so, then I may add in regards to this news: Holy **** on a **** sandwich with **** on top....and a side helping of ****! |
lol, yes, of course. My voice gives me super strength!
It's good to see another fan of that show.

Also keep in mind these chapters are from a monthly magazine, meaning more content. |
I really think people are overstating this, I mean you going to tell me that the FMA manga is as wordy as Too Long Didn't Read the Anime? I mean A Certain Magical Index, this has the 2nd light novel compressed into 3 episodes, the 3rd one is looking at 3-4 episodes. The funny thing is they skipped quite a bit of dialogue and it's still got the nickname of "Too Long Didn't Read the Anime".
Stuff gets compressed all the time, like Good Witch of the West is 8 novels compressed into 12 episodes, quicker pacing might actually improve the show too btw...

To me, the drawing style looks a lot like the manga. So it looks like a remake to me,
Though I must say, it looks poorly animated compared to the first series. It's obvious they're pushing this out to make some money off it.

Poorly animated? There's like 5 seconds of characters turning their heads and looking into the camera. How can judge animation based off of that?
Jarmel wrote: | Actually I don't think we know it'll be a complete remake. Once again they could just branch off the anime and continue from there. |
I was basing that off of the words "the brothers' journey begins." If it was "the brothers' journey continues", then I would say that it was going to branch off. Of course, we'll know for sure soon enough.

Maybe you can't tell if it's poorly animated from a promo. But, I just compared a shot of the new to Ed to the original series. It looks like a really well done fanart. There's just something about it that's driving me crazy about it, and is making me feel that way.
EDIT: I think I just figured out what it was. The original series was drawn out by hand, and colored in on computer ( that's what they showed on the making of on the movie dvd). This new series looks like it's all computer done. I could be wrong though.
I won't even get into how poorly drawn Roy looks.

You know, they probably did that promo on the fly. Even then, I think it looks perfectly fine.
Seriously, just wait until we get actual episode footage before you start complaining about the animation.

I'm with Chibi on this, you are using something from a commercial to judge the animation quality? Even still the animation looks more than fine.

It looks fine to me - the art style is just closer to the manga, that's all, plus the video quality is worse. I'll probably be disappointed by Roy as well, since I've always liked his anime design a lot better than his manga design. He's got this nasty square jaw in the manga, plus his hair is flatter.
I AM looking forward to seeing Riza with an actual personality beyond "I shoot puppies and don't take crap from anyone", though. She's cute when she smiles

I'm already psyched!!
However, the animation and style sort of look like the manga--I think this may be an animated version of the manga.

midnightshinigami: Just like Murasakisuishou said, it's the art style that's changed, not the animation. They're 2 different things, though, one certainly can be affected by the other. I'm confident that Bones will offer the same quality of animation that the previous series had, even tough the art style is more like the manga's.

Well, at the least, Scar will need to be replaced seeing as how Dameon Clarke hasn't worked for FUNimation in a while.

The newer art is definitely closer to the manga art in terms of facial structure and eyes.
Also, art and animation are not synonymous terms. Something can have horrible art but excellent animation, and vice versa. Like others have said, a few seconds promo is not a good judgment of animation for an entire series.[/img]

Just like always, go for the first episode and go with your two cents on it.

As far as Edward, the design looks exactly the same to me. Alphonse, as well. Only Roy looked different, obviously modeled more on the manga version, if you look at the structure of his facial features. The animation is definitely different, though.

And I bet dollars to donuts that FUNimation will pick this up on the first opportunity. However, the only thing I'm worried about is who could replace Aaron Dismuke as Alphonse considering that Dismuke can't do the voice anymore? They better find a good replacement because it will be pretty hard to meet the bar raised by Dismuke's performance. |
If Vic Mignogna can do little boy voices at his age, so can Aaron. I don't see anyone else voicing Alphonse because Aaron IS Alphonse.
Pulling a Hellsing Ultimate on FMA...the first series was already really good, and I don't see how they could possibly top what's already there. |
Definitely agree that the first series was excellent (my all time favorite) and it seems pointless to have this new one.
However, I'm not sure if we'd get to have Aaron Dismuke again since I recall Greg Ayers mentioning at a con that Aaron's voice has dropped. It makes sense since he was about the same age as Al when the first series was recorded and it has been several years now. That said, I don't know who would be a good choice, since I also loved Aaron's work as Alphonse.
