Hi to every one, it's my first time to do this but I would really like to know, well if anyone knows if there is a second season installment for the Fruits Basket anime....
I was really disappointed with the ending of the series, i felt like I need closure because a lot of unanswered questions were left unanswered, i mean what happened to the 12 zodiacs, did they finally break through their individuals curses or something.... eventhough i'm reading the manga right now, i really would like to see the characters alive again... so please tell me if they planning to do a second season or something..... |

The likelihood that there will be a second season is close to nil. The author expressed a disliking for how the anime turned out, and I myself didn't like it either. The cast has been united through drama CDs, but the closest you're going to get to closure is to read the rest of the manga, because that is how the story truly ends.

Forgive me for this post, since the whole thread may dissapear, but if the author expressed a disliking for the anime, woudln't he/she want to perhaps make another... you know, try #2, to see if he/she could change it around. You know, i just figured that'd make sense too... -Elfen12- |

hmm.. I didn't know the author disliked the 1st anime, but still a second one would be nice considering there is alot more in the manga not covered by the availabel fruits basket anime.

The way that the first season of the anime ended eliminated the possibilities of there even being a second season at all, if they wanted to carry on the storyline being presented in the manga. It all has to do with Akito. In the anime spoiler[it was said that he was dying, due to having to carry the weight of the Zodiac.] No such case existed in the manga as far as Akito was concerned. The other thing that makes it impossible for the second season to be carried out is spoiler[Akito in the manga continuity is in fact female. The anime portrayed Akito as a male character. ]
So, that would make things very difficult to try and explain in order to make the second season work. One last thing is that the anime finished over six years ago. Granted, some anime series have made a comeback even after such a long time, such as Ikki Tousen, but this series I believe does not have enough support or interest in it to conduct even the notion of trying to make a second season. You can read much more about the insights of Fruits Basket in the manga forum thread. |

Indeed, however, I think an interesting way to look at it would be if the author / director simply remade the first season again. Although it is my favorite series, i can see how perhaps some people woudlnt' like it, including the author of it. If he cared enough (which he probably doesn't) it'd be interestnig to see what he could do if he wanted to chagne things around. Indeed, it goes without saying that there wouldn't be a continuing season, but perhaps just a remake of some sorts, and yes, and perhaps in this remake spoiler[ actually have akito as the correct gender, or well, i think it's more fitting to have akito as a female, instead of a male]. But yes, i guess that i'm wishing to hard.

Fukunaga and other Funi reps have said they would love to do a second season of Fruits Basket, but so far they've been unable to convince the Japanese rights holders to do one. I know they've even done things like having fans make paper swans at cons and send them to Japan, but they've said there are a whole host of reasons that are keeping a second season from happening.
Personally, I love Fruits Basket and would be thrilled by a second season. |

Remaking the first season would seem like the logical thing to do, but since there hasn't been any high or low about what the studio would do, and so far they've said nothing for the past six years or so, I think the chances of it are nil. I've also spoken with Funi myself, and they have also let me know that the studio is not open or not interested in developing more Fruits Basket. As for the author, she has moved onto another series, if it garners enough support, then we could be seeing that one become an anime. I am not optimistic at all for there being another FB anime though.

I think FB could certainly benefit from a second season- you don't even meet the full 12 zodiac folks, there's a lot of material left to cover. I really don't think it would be that hard to write around the changes with Akito either. But of course, Funi's been trying for ages to get that ball rolling- if they didn't want to do it a few years ago when FB was at the height of its popularity, they definitely won't do it now when most fans have moved on to things like Death Note (pretty much a polar opposite there ).
I will admit though, Funi's marketing on FB got me hook, line, and sinker... "$2 sample DVD? How cute- I suppose I can swing that. Hey, this show's awesome! Now I have to scrape together $40 for the DVD!" This was back before I knew about TRSI. So much has changed in a few short years... |

Well just for the sake of fixing the plot holes in the anime. I personally never cared for FB and I thinks it's overrated but if they wanted to do it then that would probably work out well. I know I said I didn't like FB but I think shojo manga has gotten worse over the past 6 or 7 years with the exception of stuff like Vampire Knight, Ouran High and Skip Beat so I think that if a new Fruits Basket anime did well maybe they would start to go back to what made shojo good....and what made it different from shonen.

So there isn't going to be one, i'm sorta glad that there isn't one because i'm fairly disappointed in the turn out of the story in the manga series, actually i was so digusted i stopped reading altogether and never really finished it to the end but i i kinda know where its going....
anyway, i've moved on. but i liked the idea of if ever that there will be a remake or something and change the story line maybe i'll watch it again... thanks for the insight you guys, i'm much obliged. |

If they do I hope they make it clear Akito is indeed a spoiler[woman.] I hope they dont try to cater to the sad fangirls who fapped to Akito thinking it was a hot bishie (lol) Only to later find out they fapped to a and drooled over a spoiler[manly girl. ]
Lol dont worry! It happens to us all! (not really) Isnt that cute?spoiler[ Its a man!!!! ] We need more traps like Akito. :/ Sooo many boy ones. This series has both though...and they are a couple too! http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=2815 Ai wo Utau Yori Ore ni Oborero! Man I dont like Shinjo Mayu's stuff but she deserves credit for that. Yes that blonde is a spoiler[woman.] And the brown haired one is a delicious spoiler[man.] |

Um, you might as well not post any spoilers if you're only going to cover the barest minimum. Anyone with two brain cells can figure out what the twist is there from the context of the entire rest of the post.
I remember someone once spoiler[rudely corrected me regarding Akito's sex, despite there never being any indication of such in the anime, and the event treated as a plot twist in the manga. Well, maybe less so than the actual plot twist regarding the twelve zodiacs.] |
