this thread was inspired by Tenjou Tenge, i have a feeling this will go down as one of the strangest anime intros ever.
also i don't know if anyone has noticed this, but what is with all these deceiving intros? anyone who's seen NaruTaru or Paranoia Agent will understand what i'm talking about. is there a reason they do this?

you're darn tootin' right about narutaru and paranoia agent.....all those people laughing in paranoia agent creeped me out a bit....
well, I thought the intro of Figure 17 was a bit weird, mainly because the Title of the song was "Boy," (by that hardrockin' band--The ALFEE) but the main characters of the story were 2 girls...
and heck...I'll throw in the weirdest ending in my book: the ending song of Dragon Half. The lyrics alone were enough to make my head explode.....
not really sure what's up with these deceiving intros....but they did provide a nice contrast to the plot itself. I figure that has a value in and of itself, by way of throwing you off your seat (adding to any shock value that the show has). I know that's what happened to me when I watched Narutaru.

The opening for Narutaru actually gives away many of the plot points of the first 13 episodes if you pay close attention to what's happening in every shot, especially to small things in the background.

Even though it is up front about its weirdness, Charge! Cromartie High gets my vote.

Hm...I'm dead tired right now and can't remember much, but I'm gonna have to pitch in for Big O & Great Teacher Onizuka. One for its Queen parody, the other for...well...he's revving a toilet!
As for ending...Excel Saga, no contest. Menchi...singing...with a translator...while Excel's sprinkling salt on her. It's priceless. Honourable mention goes to Azumanga Daioh for having flying high school girls and Dragon Half for...okay, Beethoven will never sound the same to me again. Let's just leave it at that.
EDIT: Forgot one...the opening to Chobits. That's mostly the song, though (bip boo, bip boo, ret me be wisu yuu!), except at the very end when Chii starts lip synching. It's startling when the blank-eyed, almost compleyely still persocom suddenly begins singing along...

Have you seen the "Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu" intro? Umm… yeah that was pretty weird, in a cute way.

the contrast I was referring to was simply the cheery, reggae-induced music (and its accompanying lyrics) contrasted by the some of the most somber and unfortunate scenes on the show. I certainly was thrown off by the way the creators took things "that far," and I never got that from the opening.

Narutaru wins my vote for messed up. It is just... so so so very wrong for that show/manga. I still can't believe they showed that show on a kids channel.
I can't think of a messed up ending right now, but the Menchi one is always nice.

Big O, I am still wondering what the inspiration was behind that.

Actually, Kids Station is just a general cartoon channel which shows plenty of mature content at night, and Narutaru aired on their equivalent of Adult Swim.

Well that's a good thing to know. I was freaking out for a while over what the Japanese show their kids while watching that. Them starting the anime version off like it was another Pokemon show didn't help either.

Damn... you beat me to it.
But yeah, all of the Jungle Guu intros and endings are weird. My favorite was the Jungle Guu Deluxe ending. Not only does Guu sing in a deep base voice, but she also uses a cat with many legs as a trumpet.

It's a parody of the song Queen did for the 1980 Flash Gordon movie.

That wasn't weird. I think it just goes to show you how "great" he really is. For one, it's because he's such a pro at motorcylcling, and two for the way he acts. I can't quite put it into words, but if you watch the intro enough times and compare it to his overall attitude, it kind of makes sense.
The reason he's "revving a toilet" seems to give me the impression that he's just really laid back. I think the revving sound was just a part of the song to imply he likes motorcycles. I dunno, I'm just a really big GTO fanboy. I could be wrong...
