How would the ANN staff and loyal visitors to tha site feel about reducing tha anime list. What I mean by that is taking tha less commonly refered to names, in North America, of certain anime that have 'double entries' and moving them to a sub web space like ANN already has for omnibus and not anime but related.

Example: Leaving Twelve Kindoms on tha main list.

Moving Juuni Kokki to a sub space.

Just an idea, that I would be willing to help out with as I find double entries, to help reduce tha already large list of anime. So it makes it easier to look threw tha 'main list' without viewing tha same anime listings over and over.

Problem with that is that too many people know too many anime by too many titles. I'd rather search for an anime by the title I know rather than try to remember what everybody else calls it. To me, Juuni Kokki is Juuni Kokki. Even though I know its R1 title is Twelve Kingdoms, I'm too used to Juuni, and will naturally go to "J" when I want to look it up. Same with Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuioku-Hen (Samurai-X...*shudder*), Ayashi no Ceres (Ceres, Celestial Legend), Fushigi Yuugi (Mysterious Play), and so on.

Ya, Im not saying get rid of them just move them to make for a 'lighter' list. Since this is a R1 site (I believe) I think just using tha heavely used names of anime for tha main list would be fine. It aint a hugh problem though (just a tiring one), and if people believe changing it will cause an even bigger problem then I guess it's not worth it.

Hmm... at this online store, http://www.animeten.com/user.php you can see an option to tell it to turn off the alias names when browsing for items. While I don't know if such an option can be made for the encyclopedia as it is now, I think it could prove to be an interesting option if it could be made available.

I really don't see a problem with the list, or how this would help out ANN in any ways. If an anime fan gets introduced to an anime by a less popular name, and they come here, look under anime, and don't find it, they won't. Why should they have to go look in another section. Besides, if they were to do this, they might as well remove every anime that doesn't have an R1 release, and move it to the "special" list. Some dub/R1 names are just... bad anyway. Like the detective conan R1 name...

While I don't think it would necessarily be useful to ANN directly, it might be a useful option for the end user. Frankly, I dislike having to wade through numerous links just to find a certain title. I can see where the user would benefit, but since I don't think it would cut down on the ANN resources any, I doubt that such a personal preference option would be any type of priority.

Damn that would be sweet, you push a button and a reduced list appears. But your right im sure its not a priority, I mean we saw Tempest's list. ANN already has their hands full.

At first I didn't like Playboi's idea, but this alternative is a good idea.

I'll ask Dan to put it on the "to-do" list. But it'll take him a while to get to it.

I suggest one way to streamline the Encyclopedia lists would be to make more omnibus listings. For instance instead of 15 individual Digimon titles (some are alternates) have one omnibus "Digimon Family" listing. Then the omnibus listing would have the links to the different titles. Also, information that was common to the whole family of titles could be included in the omnibus page and reduce the repetition of information on the title pages. Perhaps you could set up some rule like if there are more than some number of common titles (say three) they would be flagged as candidates for an omnibus listing.

I think a drop-down menu is still tha best way to go. With tha options of say "Complete List (American and Japanese titles)" <---That would of course be tha default page "Japanese Titles only" and "American Titles only (with tha exception of Japanese titles that have yet to be American titled)"

Please explain more what "American" titles would be. Do you mean titles of productions that have had official U.S. releases, or would it mean any English title? U.S. licensed titles are already designated with a bold font, so they shoud be easy to segregate. English titles are more difficult since there is nothing that tells you if a title is from an official release or if it's a translation of the Japanese title. An anime may even have different English titles in different countries and in different releases in the same country.

There are a few examples of non-japanese comics and animation that we decide to allow into the encyclopedia, this includes some American productions. Additionally we allow some live action titles into the encyclopedia. All these titles are grouped into the not anime but related and the not manga but related lists.
