Yeah, it goes on and on, but without the craziness it just wouldn't be 'GGG'. Hope the 'OVA' gets picked up. But considering what happened with getting the last half who knows what the chances are.
Even with all the short comings mentioned it's really surprising that this became fave in Japanese. And hearing that 'Gurren Lagann' surpassed that, is hard to believe. Not because I don't believe it, it's because it couldn't get into it. But after having someone break it down I may have to give it another try. I'll give 'Gainax' that much. I'm just glad they got the last set out. Now my collection of madness, and boobs are complete. |

uhh... GaoGaiGar predates Gurren Lagann by about 10 years, i can't even imagine why you would compare the two.
anyways... the second half of Gaogaigar is amazing. i really think this show could've easily been cut down 26 episodes. 30 at worse. the first half is pretty much entirely filler. does anyone know if Media Blasters has GaoGaiGar Final as well? |

I personally think that Gurren Lagann is more of a homage to the Super Robot genre, but with enough twists to invite non-fans. GaoGaiGar was more by the books, but excels at everything it does.

Gurren Lagann I felt was more of a run of the mill SR show that was an overall homage to the genre. It didn't have have anything special to it where as GGG just had Courage and Hot Blood all over it the whole time.

Gurren-Lagann had plenty of energy, idiosyncratic direction and clever writing to support its narrative. GGG offers nothing but HOT BLOOD and while that makes for an excellent experience it’s part of a niche only a few can enjoy. Therein lays the difference.

Gurren-Lagann's ten years younger than GGG and benefits of all – or almost all – the innovations of the anime media which happened during this time and made it succesful for the mass market/casual watcher. Therein lays the difference. |

Sure, GL has benefited from today's innovations in storytelling/animation techniques, but frankly, it's just as derivative of other anime as GGG, so trumpeting the former's superiority over the latter is just pointless. And it's kinda unfair for the reviewer, or for anyone to say that some title is "just for the niche audience" because that is already assuming that the majority has the same tastes as s/he is, which is one of the faults of most reviewers here.
