There is no Outlaw Star season 2.

There had been reports last year that the creators of Outlaw Star had worked on a preliminary design for a sequel called "Sword of Wind."

And earlier this year the creator of Outlaw Star put a poster for a Movie on his website. He also very clearly labelled it as a joke. He's quite firmly stated that he would like to work on a sequel but there is nothing currently in production.

The Big O: Season 2 will air in Japan in October.

I read in a magazine a few weeks ago, that 2 new animes will premier on Adult Swim in December 2002. I got excited because i though that Big O 2 and Stand Alone Complex will hit CN this year. But when i asked the Cartoon Network Reps. about this they said that no new animes will premier on Adult Swim this year. I think it will be about a year till Big O 2 and GitS: Stand Alone Complex airs on Cartoon Network.

But CN has a tentative date of (January 2003) set for the new season of Yu-Yu Hakusho.

Ok, so I guess the obvious question is, what ever happened to Cartoon Network (and of course the US) getting Big O 2 before Japan? I thought it was CN that was pushing for it's creation and that they were getting the first shot at it. Was it just some sort of missunderstanding along the line or what?

A-D posted that originally, IIRC. I'm not sure _what_ their source was on it, but no, it wasn't correct.

A couple of days ago, the series began airing from the *very* beginning; they will be showing episodes 1-26 in order. It will be a couple of months before "new" episodes start airing in Japan.

Well, atleast Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is still going to be a simultaneous showing.

BTW, I've got a question that's always bugged me, is it (given name, family name) Masamune Shirow or Shirow Masamune? I noticed in the interview (And what a great interview it is Temp!) he's refered to as both Mr. Shirow and Mr. Masamune. It's one of those names that could go either way you know?

*sigh*...if only it were true...

'fraid GITS has already started airing in Japan...and no word on when we'll see it over here. AS for Masamune Shirow, I've seen it go both ways too. But it's a pen name, so maybe it's intentionally ambigous?

While there might not be a Outlaw Star 2 series, there's a manga called Outlaw Star 2. The Manga is set before Outlaw Star starts, and will be printed in Ultra Jump. However, I look more forward towards volume 4 of the Outlaw Star manga series and the recent news from Itoh that he will be working on a new Future-Retro Hero Story manga that takes place a little before the FRHS series. The main reason Itoh's having problems with a Outlaw Star sequel is due to Bandai. Itoh thinks that if the Outlaw Star 2 manga sells well in Japan or that American fans bug Bandai that there might be a new series.

As for the joke, the thing that gave it away was the dates. The dates were for Star Wars Esp. II. Itoh happens to be a big SF fan.

*sigh* Ok, so what happened there? Temps interview was only from August, how did that change so fast? Looks like we'll have to wait just a bit longer for us to get an anime TV premiere I suppose. I wont say I feal cheated or anything, but it is a bit disapointing. Confused

Oh, and thanks for the insight on the name, now I don't have to feel like an idiot when I don't know how to address him to people.

is it a positive thing the GitS is gonna play on CN? hopefully not I'de rather it not be choped up. and another questions is it gonna be 26 eps (most likely right) or are they doing more? I'm hoping they get a GREAT story in 26 eps.

Well, let's put it this way:

CN said that they're going to broadcast it.

... but let's recall how long it took Viz to get them to run Inu-Yasha...

Both sides wanted it to happen, but it still took quite a while.

If CN's going to broadcast it, then Bandai and CN probably still have a number of things to iron out with their contracts. I recall seeing something about CN planning to air GitS TV... but like IY, their "guarantee" might still take some time before it happens.

Unfortunately it is not. When I asked those questions I was under the impression that CN would be showing it in October. Obviously that isn't the case.

Bandai has very big plans for the show though, as they are the co-producers and have the worldwide licencing rights (they themselves are not a licensee though).

I've wondered the same thing. Lemme find out for you.

Thanks for the compliment.
