The really high amount of bad language in Gungrave almost disappears after the 1st vol. right? I was upset by the heavy doses of language in the 1st vol. but I hear that it gets better after the first vol. or so, am I correct?

I don't think the language was any worse than most anime I watched. I'd say it stays reletively consistent throughout the series.
