I was browsing through TRSI when I noticed something interesting:
Death Note Box Set (Volumes 1-13) Apparently it's shipping Oct. 7 and comes in a neat little box. I rather like this because the price is great, the box is nice, and is especially attractive to those who've been meaning to buy the Death Note GNs but haven't picked it up yet. Check out the pics here! VIZ seems to be doing this for Bleach and Naruto as well, though they aren't as attractive to me because they're "incomplete." Are they gonna be doing this for other series from other lines as well? I'd love to pick one up for FMA or Monster. |

I could see them doing one for FMA because it's popular, but not for Monster. But who knows? Maybe if the anime sells enough they might do a box set for it. But that's if Viz releases it.
And yeah, the Death Note box set looks really nice. But I'm not that big a fan of the manga. I'm already on volume 22 of Bleach, so I'm not picking that up. And the Naruto one looks intriguing, but I don't have enough money to be spending it on that. |

Wow, I guess box sets are getting popular!
The Death Note box set looks good - too bad I already have all 13 vols. As for the Bleach box set, I did preorder (even though it is incomplete - yeah that bugged me too) simply because it is all 21 vols for a cheaper price. Interestingly, the Naruto box set seems to become a regular event. I actually think that there will be a 2009 Fall box set. Also there are box sets coming out for Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. It would be cool if Monster got it's own box set because I haven't bought a vol yet and I do want the series. But I do doubt it. I wonder what they will come out with next? Probably something like Black Cat or One Piece. I would like one for YuYu Hakusho. |

Ooh, interesting. Considering I have yet to own Death Note (borrowed it from a friend) this would be a good opportunity to buy it.

But one for One Piece would be good, especially later on what with its 40 volumes plus bulk... |

I've got the Death Note anime, but I was kind of hesitating about buying the manga for some reason. It was my other-worldly intuition about box sets, apparently. I don't own Monster either, but considering that it is on almost everyone's favorite list, I doubt I'm going to wait for that box set. I mean, they might not even make it, and if they do I really don't have the patience.

Agh, this is like waiting for thinpaks, though more uncertain.
I think that these will be generally reserved for the more popular shonen titles, so realistically, a Monster box set is, if it's in the future, a very long way off. |

I wonder how they'll fit the larger volume 13 in. Maybe on top of the others horizontally?

I wonder why they put 12 after 7 and not 11 in the picture.
Yeah, but at the pace that it's being released, it'll be about 7 or 8 years to get around 40 volumes. I think that it would be very nice if Viz releases the box sets as a stand-alone item (ie, without the volumes) for those of us who have already collected them. |

That'd be nice. I'm sure you'll be able to find them on ebay for an atrocious price v_v
I know with the initial release of dbz version 2 manga, every volume had a cut out coupon in the back to send in for an empty collectors case, but that expired long long ago. I hate the fact that the naruto box is designed to double stack them instead of being a long box. Maybe we could just get that guy who does special metallic dvd boxes to make one for manga |

Because everyone knows the series really ends after Vol. 7. |

The Death Note box does look very nice, but I've already got half of the series on my bookshelf.
The others look cool as well, but I don't think I'll be picking them up. I simply can't afford them at this time. |
