Haha... oh, I can just hear the elitist fans complaining about this series being milked. Ya know what? No one cares. They're gonna do it, and those who know how to enjoy it will enjoy it. End of story.
*does the happy dance*

I now love Yamaga. More specifically his ending statment. Working on Gurren Lagann for the next decade guarantees that I'll be a fanboy for the next decade as well.

Ah, the misintended misspellings.
Milk it like Eva. Moo!

Quote: | If only the television stations would just look through the original scripts when we submitted them instead of waiting until the animation footage was made. When we actually first suggested [the episode], they said, “Oh, it shouldn't be a problem.” Yet when we completed the animation footage and showed it to them, they said, “There's no way we can show this.” |
Oh what? They're complaining about a bath episode that didn't even show anything? There are plenty of worse themes that air on "child-friendly" time slots.

I think people do care. Not even the best series out there have gone that long without seriously slipping. It's better to run a series well and end it on a high note than to milk it for all its worth until it ends in a diminished light and its legacy is always impacted by that.
It's a good series, but honestly, I don't see it as being as amazing as people think or claim. And some of the praise in this interview even seems unwarranted. I mean, it's not like this is the first series to balance comedy and serious elements very well, even doing so in a single episode. I'd actually say that's a pretty common thing to do, generally with varying degrees of success.

Thanks to fansubs and and all that jazz, I guess the internet specifically, GL was more popular faster than Eva could ever be. Coupled with a TV airing and DVD release, it could prove to be a more known show in the end.

People who don't even like anime have heard of Eva. No matter how much of a better show GL is, it won't be as well known as Evangelion.

Eva also has 12 years on Gurren Lagann, so time will tell what happens.

Just to ground ourselves further, as ubiquitous as we believe EVA to be, it'll never top Pokémon.

Yeah, but we can be elitist not-so-nice-people and not consider Pokemon as real anime as it's absolutely intended for 7 year olds and has no other hidden or adult themes running through it. It's more of a childrens' cartoon that happens to come from Japan.

So both movies will be summaries of the series? Color me disappointed.
That bit about the bath house episode was perplexing, and a little revealing about the type of people running the networks. It sounds like they didn't really read much of anything Gainax gave them, or were looking for things like raunchy lines or explicitly sexual scenes.

Back when the videos were being released for the first time, Eva was the only anime ever to get the casual and fringe anime watchers to show up in the weekly univ anime screenings at a full auditorium audience.

Perhaps they were expecting something on the level of FMP FUMOFFU?! and got something more racier. This was airing in a child-friendly and not otaku timeslot. Gainax should have been more responsible given that they received a timeslot with more exposure.
