When Vash realizes what Rem was trying to say he knows what he has to do to Knives, I don't quite get it. Does he decide to shoot him then look after him or what?

I'm assuming he just takes him off to lead a normal life.

Accodring to some of the fanfictions I've heard about, what he does is only legal in Alabama.

But seriously, the anime is quite open-ended about what exactly happened - however, I have always thought that Vash shoots Knives and takes him back to town to nurse back to health and hopefully reform.

Its really obvious that he decides to help Knives he wouldn't want to kill someone it goes against what he believes in.

I thought in the end Vash decides he wont follow Rem's beliefs and will start a new life with Knives

Know I think Vash just decides to show Knives his way of life and try to show him how killing is wrong. Vash wouldn't kill knives and go against what he believes.

I'm going to have to watch the end of Trigun again, I dont remember seeing Knives turn good. What's to stop him from healing up and then start killing again.

Once again, it's fairly open-ended. Remember, Knives saw people moreso as playthings rather than things that actually felt. He did what he did to prove Vash wrong, and seen as how he finally did (by using Legato. If Vash didn't kill him by his own choice, then things would continue to get even worse), then he's not inclined to kill anyone anymore. He just doesn't need to. To a person like Knives, the amount of time spent on this whole thing would have been like you proving someone else wrong in an amount of time that you saw as convinient. Knives wasn't going anywhere, and neither was Vash, and their patience was pretty much endless.
In essence, the whole thing is a 130 year old bet. Of Sorts.

Skullnight, is this to say that you are more personally aware of the things Zac speaks of? Please share.

I figure that Vash decides to let him live. Vash doesnt kill unless he has to. I suspect he wouldn't kill his own brother too. I think Vash is hoping that letting him live will teach Knives a lesson. And that Knives part from his killing path. Because Vash could've killed Knives easily, but he didn't. Showing that he would rather Knives be alive then dead. Vash is showing that killing is not the answer. And maybe by not killing Knives, Knives will learn the same. Thats all spectulation and thoughts, but thats what i think.

Now I might be wrong here, but I remember Vash shooting Knives in both of his shoulders and both of his legs. So I kinda thought that Vash crippled Knives so he couldn't be a threat any more. After all, if he doesn't get full control of his arms and legs again, he can't do too much damage.

HAHA i was actually gonna write that, but i wasnt sure if he did or not. I haven't watched Trigun for a while. So i didn't want to write something i wasnt sure of. Yeah, so he is alive, but now he a bit crippled. And if there was another fight, Vash would be able to cripple Knives even more or kill him, that is if Vash is tirwd of Knives killing people.
