The '90s remake was kind of forgettable, just like its sister OVA, the Casshan remake.

BTW, I didn't see this posted here and I don't know where to post news here, but the director of the CGI Gatchaman movie has left due to "creative differences":

I never much cared for the show itself because it's just too dated, but I loved the updated artwork they did for the more recent releases by that comic artist whose name unfortunately escapes me for the moment. It's a shame that such great artwork was associated with a series that just looks to dated. I'm usually forgiving of dated series, but Gatchaman just aged worse than most.

The BOtP comics I have were by Alex Ross IIRC, and I do believe ADV had him do artwork for their Gatchaman release also.
I have a single BoTP disc, and that satisfied my nostalgia enough that I've never felt the urge to get the ADV version - I never even got around to watching the episode they put on a Newtype disc.

Alex Ross, there ya go. Such a talented artist, can't believe I forgot his name. Probably one of the best talents in the local industry, wonder how much he cost ADV, heh. Anyways, I'll stop going OT now.

This is nice for people who are looking for some nostalgia, but I can't imagine there's much interest in this series anymore beyond that. It's like Voltron, I bet the bulk of those sales for the DVD sets are all just people looking to relive their youth, I can't imagine they brought in much new blood.
