Any fans of the show this 1985, Sunrise Mecha TV series called Spt Laynzer?

Probaly the darkest, most angst filled tv series of the decade.

I actually bought the series on Laser Disc and am a pretty big fan of everything Takahashi has worked on, but think that in many ways Votoms is a bit darker. The series also had a really strong serialized flow to it since some episodes didn't even end with much closer or even a cliff hanger. The most interesting thing about the series is the several year gap between Act I and II. I love how things were not resolved at at the end of the 1996 arc and just leaps forward to 1999. I do understand what you mean by dark as the cast is a bunch of carefree and innocent kids in the first part and are reintroduced as bitter and jaded adults in the second part. It reminded me of the change that the White Base crew underwent between FIrst Gundam and Zeta.

This show pioneered the idea of having a different insert in the OP credits and I can't think of any other shows from it's era that did this, although since the Trigun/S-Cry-Ed/Vandread era this has become common practice. It is a shame that this series was canceled, but am glad that the story had a more proper end with the OAV compared to the non-ending the series has.

I'm impressed you have the LD boxset, great to meet a long term fan of the show.

I know the character designs evolve in the OVA series but do they change in the 2nd season too? The 2nd opening suggest they do, especially of Eiji.

Episodes 1-8 have been fansubbed.

Hope others check it out.

Uh, you've been around long enough to know better. How about providing your own opinion before you expect others to do the same?
