Can you recall a scene from a manga series that left not feeling like you were before you read it? You could have ended up being happy, ecstatic, sad, confused, or even mad.
The scene that made me think of this subject was from the first volume of CLAMP's RG Veda. The scene in question was spoiler[the death of Gigei, the dancer who refused to disclose the location of Yashao and Ashurao, even if it meant her death. She was in love with Yashao as well, which made it all the more charged when she knew that it was the end, yet she refused the soldiers' demands. And in the end, she couldn't even get a proper burial.] This scene left me mad because spoiler[death is inevitable, but it was even sadder that this person was ready to move on in life after the festival and go after the one she loved, yet she never got the chance.] |

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle chapter 179 made me deliriously happy when spoiler[Sakura was killed by C!Syaoran I was never fan of her. Unfortunately it turned out she was a replica however I don't like C!Syaoran but I take to TRC!R!'Syaoran' that real name is not Syaoran so I thought I may like TRC!real Sakura (who is not named 'Sakura') a bit more, as well.]

Well you said a change in emotion...
In that case I'd probably go with the ending of Azumanga Daioh. Just like with the anime series even though it had no great plot the whole school leaving resided with me- especially considering I finished secondary school (seven years) last year when I read/watched it. There was an odd mixture of sadness and happiness. Actually I got more of an emotional response from Azu then I did from leaving my school ![]() |

I have another RG Veda moment: spoiler[when it was revealed that Taishakuten let his dogs eat the body of Karura's sister.] That was a moment that just beyond horrified me.

*sigh* Obviously, (Death Note spoilers) spoiler[ L's death in Death Note. The poor guy! I mean, his life had probably one of the worst possible ones imaginable. He works to this total goal, only to not only fail at this goal but to also die so he has no chance of achieving it.

Kekkaishi. spoiler[I read the end of vol 10 where Gen got severly injured, but I didn't actually know he had died until the beginning of volume 11 when they have his actual funeral. That sucked, I was sad because Gen was cool and he just learned the true meaning of teamwork and friendship. Perfect time to die, idiot! *sniff*]
Maison Ikkoku. Pretty much most chapters until volume 15. They just make me smile, no matter what kind of mood I was in before. I especially like Volume 12 when spoiler[ Nikaido moves in (he was cut from the anime for those unaware) and Yotsuya has fun teasing him mercilessly.] Its probably my favorite volume out of all them in a way. |

The scene in CLAMP's Wish manga when spoiler[Soichiro keels over and Kohaku starts to cope with it.] This was the first time a manga made me cry! I wasn't expecting it since the manga was so light to begin with...

The ending of Kakashi Gaiden, Chapter 181 and the last page of Chapter 405 of the Naruto manga. Especially 405; it made me want to cry myself; spoiler[I feel so bad for Tsunade, and plus I miss Jiraiya!]

Another good moment I just read today. SaiKano vol 2, spoiler[when the supposedly American troops think that Chise is an angel and then she kills them all]. Actually, SaiKano as a whole seems to be a really long emotionally stirring scene, at least from the two volumes I've read so far (and I've heard about the ending as well).

Might wanna fix your spoiler tags, Marie.
Saddest use of 1000 paper cranes ever: Kodomo no Jikan, chapter 12. That picture by itself makes me tear up. spoiler[Poor little girl tries to save her mommy from cancer, and Reiji loses the woman who brought happiness into his life.] |

This is why I need to stop trying and using the buttons and just type the things out myself. Though I usually check to make sure they're right after I post. |

Scenes that made me cry:
Inuyasha: spoiler[Kagura's death. The weirdest thing is, somebody spoiled her death to me, so I was expecting it. What I was NOT expecting was how ironic and tragic the circumstances of her detah were-- how Naraku gave her her freedom, and then poisoned her so she only had one hour to live. And then Sesshoumaru came and couldn't save her... ;__; The art was unusually good in that scene too...] Naruto: spoiler[Haku and Zabuza's death really got to me] One Piece: spoiler[Chopper's backstory. I couldn't believe it when it turns out that Chopper accidentally fed his doctor friend a poisoned mushroom, thinking it would save him.] Scenes that really shocked me: Monster: spoiler[When Johan's twin sister goes to a restroom, stands in front of a mirror, and pulls off her wig, to reveal that it's actually Johan himself. Biggest WTF moment for me ever.] Hoshin Engi: spoiler[When it reveals that that blue-skinned guy, Outenkun, was an alternate version of Taikoubou, or something. The scene where Outenkun pulls off his hat and shows that he has the same bangs as Taikoubou was ridiculous and yet somehow extremely surprising. Oh yeah, and the whole plot towards the end with aliens. -_- What a weird manga.] Marmalade Boy: spoiler[When the main couple, forget their names, are led to believe that they're actually sister and brother.] And Aria and Yokohama Kadaishi Kiko get points for putting me in a relaxed mood. Wow, almost all of these are shonen.... I'm a girl, you'd think I'd get emotional over shoujo or something.... ![]() |

I'm a sucker when it comes to One Piece scenes. They always will make me feel excited that I'm reading it or it will give me the bumps when I'm reading about a bond that is never broken, even in death. One example is spoiler[Noland and Kalugara, when though they seemed like enemies, in the end they were friends, because Noland saved Kalugara's land and people from death. ]The other example, which I became literally overjoyed over was the scene at spoiler[Enies Lobby when Robin finally realized where her destiny lay, and she was just crying and telling Luffy that she wanted to go with them to the end.]

I can't remember being shocked too much in recent years just because I haven't read a lot of manga (bought a lot, but haven't read it...pathetic me), but when I was younger the first scene that I read that ever shocked the pants off me was in Sailor Moon when spoiler[Princess Serenity picks up a big ol' sword an decides to run herself through with it]. I was like "OMG! That is SO not what happened in the anime! People in Sailor Moon spoiler[Don't go and commit suicide!"]
Oh, I was so innocent back then... |
