His last significant film was Wyatt Earp, so anything can go from here. He's worked on the Star Wars stuff, too, and Macross/Robotech wouldn't have happened without SW, but does he still got it, or will we get another Lucas?

Dreamcatcher is one of the worst movies I've ever seen and he was invovled in the script of that as well as directing it.

Ill reserve my judgement...

Well, Empire Strikes Back (the best of the Star Wars films IMHO), Return of the Jedi, Raiders of the Lost Ark - not a bad pedigree of writing there. If he's not directing, this could be a very good thing. The real issue of course is whether WB can take care of the licensing red tape and have it looking like the original. A Robotech movie won't be the same without VF-1s that actually look like VF-1s.

Of course, Empire's script was originally drafted by Leigh Brackett before she died, and I liked that script better than the one to Jedi myself. However, Raiders was a great script.

I can see (or rather hope) that one of two things happen:
- Harmony Gold's TERRIBLE handling of the license stops the movie ever getting off the ground
- In order to actually make the film, Harmony Gold finally have to relinquish their vicelike grip on unrelated licenses, and we might finally get licensed versions of Macross 7 (and all it's spinoffs), Macross Zero, Frontier, DYRL, and the various VFX games and other games. Plus the embargo on reselling Macross merchandise might finally disappear.

Given Harmony Gold's past conduct though, the former is more likely.

Macross 7 is owned by greedy Japanese record companies who think we actually want to watch the show for its crappy music, just because the Japanese did so. Zero and Frontier are probably owned by Bandai Visual, while DYRL is likely a casualty of that Tatsunoko/Big West legal battle.

Also, Harmony Gold's not the worst American company to handle an anime. Nor would the project be hampered by them, given that we got that Korean Robotech movie only a year or so ago. The real issue would be whether or not we'll get stuck with another Wing Commander.

I think Kasdan has the talent to make this live-action really good...

Who knows, he'll probably be able to do it so good that it might well be the first live action to actually win the Oscars (thats what I am hoping though)

OMG!! I have never seen the anime version of robotech before. This movie might be better than the speed racer movie. Surprised I hope they will play the show's original theme song.
