Episode 3

As usual, the correct solution would be polyamory.

I would love to see Himari flounder after her reaction at the end of episode 3. You don't see too many of these 3-way rom coms where the childhood friend has a complete meltdown. I'm hoping the next episode she doesn't have an emotional reversal and it's back to the same routine. Instead, I'd like to see her get a tad darker and try to get between Yu and Rion and be more forward; spice things up! If I had to bet, I'd see Himari with Yu eventually by the end, they just have great chemistry, it needs to be a seriously bumpy road to that conclusion.

My opinion on Himari will be reserved for how she grows from her current bratty self. Anime often has an issue with idealizing their female characters so I enjoy the shows where the girls are allowed to be a hot mess. I also like that Yu called Himari out on her behavior, because what she's putting him through is frankly quite sh*tty. But it's a lot more interesting to watch people start off sh*tty and improve themselves than have a story where everyone is perfect and lovely toward each other from the start.

...that's if the show is any good. And the jury's still out on that.

Ep 3 production quality dropped significantly even before the usual (now outdated) 3-eps rule,

I hope we won't keep seeing the art goes down too much from this point onwards ;/

Honestly Himari is an interesting character for me.

She's vivacious, sassy, exuberant, and she really livens up every scene she's in.

But she's also the epitome of why every Childhood Friend Losing Heroine loses. She can't be honest with her feelings, ends up helping her love rival in-spite of herself, she takes advantage of the close friendship/history she has with the MC to her advantage, she keeps digging herself into holes until it appears to be too late for her to make her move and even when she does make a move she sabotages herself. But frankly she has no one else to blame but herself.

Meanwhile Rion is also actually a childhood friend of sorts and a contrast to Himari in terms of being one of the few people who can handle her (physically) and is also more normal and honest in terms of her romantic intentions towards Yu. She clearly acts like someone who has feelings towards him and wants to get closer to him without any artifice.

I also think Yu is a pretty solid romcom lead where he clearly has a personality and interests and isn't just a typical self-insert protagonist, and his reactions to Himari and Rion are pretty natural.
