Oh good, this is another good reason for Canada and the Canadian people to get angry at Trump more and more.*

*For those of you that don't keep track of what's going on with US-Canada relationship ever since Trump was re-elected. He managed to pissed off Canada by wanting to make it the "51st" states (secondary sources: BBC News, AP News, NBC News, New York Times), had a Canadian actress who was featured in American Pie detained by ICE (secondary sources: Canada's CBC News, CTV News, Global News, MSNBC interview), put a tariff which led to US alcoholic drinks being removed from Canadian shelves, Canadian tourists cancelling their travel trips to the US because of the tariffs and the tension. Canadians even booed at the US's National anthem at sporting events. So delaying the Canadian's pre-order for Switch 2 will increase more anger at the Trump administration.

This reminds of that old mexican saying of uncertain origin:"¡Pobre México, tan lejos de Dios y tan cerca de Estados Unidos!"
Guess canadians really wish they could physically move their country to another continent right about now.

Hi, Canadian here, I live relatively close to the US border (bout 2 hours-ish), and a lot of local businesses are refusing to accept American dollars as well

We could pre-order on our mainstream stores about a week before Nintendo's official date here in France (and probably in other EU countries), so even if the situation is different, I would advise Canadian and US friends to check their favorite stores regularly before the news from Nintendo's side, just in case to avoid an immediate stock-out situation when your pre-order is "officially" available like what happened with our friends in the UK.

Yes, I'm already hearing and have became aware of this. I keep track of the news of US-Canada relationship ever since Trump pissed of Canada, and I'm continuing to watch everything on the news.

Half of Canadians support Trump and honestly wish their country would also protect their local economy as they share many of the same concerns as American Trump voters who are concerned about the long term consequences of leftist globalist policies and morality and are not going to get angry over a Nintendo children's toy. Some provinces like Alberta could seriously pursue 51st State status if their concerns are not met and they continue to have their livelihoods crippled by the Ottawa climate cartel. Canadian politicians themselves made the decision to retaliate by removing US liquor from shelves, even though they didn't have to, same for anyone cancelling trips, it's their decision and their money. If the Japanese yen went up you'd see tourism decrease there too and the prices of games and systems going up in exchange rate value. If some Canadians want to have their Switch 2, then they can cut a deal with Trump and also ask China and Vietnam to agree to the US demands to reduce their tariffs on US goods. Or help Nintendo to assemble Switch 2 systems in Canada and employ Canadian people.

I highly doubt people in Canada that used to support Trump will not be happy about what Trump did. I think detaining a Canadian actress by ICE probably caused more anger then anything else. Canadian people already boycotted American stuff.

But I'm going to let you in on this. Many Canadian companies have already boycott American stuff:

The Guardian: Canadian pizzeria boycott US ingredients

There's probably a lot of Canadian stores, and chains that are already actively supporting the boycott of American stuff. It's already hurting US companies.

The boycott of American/US made alcoholic drinks is nothing new because it has happened in history before according to Time Magazine article. It ain't just Canadians, Danes also backed the boycotting of American stuff because...

I can go on about it, but I'm veering off topic. Check your PM, I'll talk to you on there.

What do you mean they didn’t have to? Trump’s tariffs were the catalyst for why they did that and were unnecessary in general to begin with. He’a throwing around weight he doesn’t have all for clout he hasn’t earned and his idiocy thus far has cost the U.S. and many of its people trillions of dollars. To say nothing of alienating countries we’ve been allies with for decades.

If anyone needs to stand down it’s him not Canada, Japan, South Korea, or any of the other countries he’s slapped these tariffs on.

Not to mention given Trump’s well documented history of welching on agreements something he’s been sued for. Why would you ever make a deal with someone whose shown to be habitually untrustworthy?

I remember Canadians acting very smug in the other delay thread so this is a bit funny to see.

I don't blame Nintendo. Stock allocations would have been based one what it expected to sell in Canada, which would not have factored in Americans pre-ordering through Canadian retailers out of the expectation that it would still be cheaper to pay the international shipping than the jump in cost in America.

That is perhaps the biggest problem. The numbers and timing change all the time, and that kind of uncertainty is one of the worst things for any business. I expect that eventually that uncertainty will cause foreign businesses to push their own governments to stop trying to negotiate with someone who will turn everything upside down on a whim. Even if it costs them some revenue from America, at least they would have more consistency.

I've already had the shipping cost of something I pre-ordered about six months prior be increased a day before delivery because it didn't quite make it in time. I've had a different one contact customers to make them aware of a crowd funding campaign to try to pay for tariffs that the business can't afford and would rather not pass to the customers in the form of increasing the price they already paid. If they don't meet it, then hopefully I'll see a refund.

Since then, I'm now hesitant to do any sort of pre-orders because I don't know if the price I accepted will be the price I pay. These aren't things that have a domestic equivalent, and the end result is I'm probably just not going to buy. For me, it does nothing other than make me buy less and drive up the costs of what I do buy.

Pretty much; just about every console or electronics manufacturer has been hit and Nintendo, to their credit, did everything they could to get ready for the tariffs. They modified their supply chains, they were calculating how things would cost in regards to a weak yen an inflation, and they've clearly been stockpiling as much inventory as they can in the US to blunt any effects. It's not their fault that the US president decided to touch the stove and be burned. I can't even blame them for when they did the announcement because nobody could predict tariffs based on trade deficit (all a trade deficit means is you're buying more than you're selling. That's it).

So this is the reality everyone is gonna have to face: the price is set. The market is just too volatile for them to go lower, with the console and with games. If you want to get angry, get angry at the current US administration for creating conditions nobody can trust right now.
