The site editor doesn't understand how to create style consistency with the reviewers.

Reviewers aren't for consistency. Reviewers are for reviews that show their own opinions. What you are proposing is requiring reviewers to review things in accordance not with their opinion, but to toe the party line. It's one of the most frowned upon things in reviews, I have no idea how can you say that with straight face.

If you don't agree with one reviewer's opinions you don't put a lot of importance on their opinions. For example I know Rebecca Silverman's opinions are usually closest to mine on the site so I consider her reviews most important for my decision to check something I'm not sure about or didn't heard about previously. Otr just read her insights int medium.

Did I watch the same show as everyone else, as I did not at all get "this is a tourism commercial" implied message from Episode 1?

N.b. I am NOT accusing Kenta Ishizaka of plagiarism or anything unethical in the following, as being inspired by previous works is perfectly legitimate.

Regarding the comparison of Zatsu Tabi to Yuru CampΔ, the former is very similar in tone and appearance to the latter (as well as to Yama no Susume, particularly in the stair climbing scene). While I do not expect Zatsu Tabi to be the equal of the two shows (which I rated both Masterpiece), it would not surprise me if it comes close.

James Beckett in The Spring 2025 Anime Preview Guide Zatsu Tabi review wrote:
While I hope she gets a supporting cast to bounce off of and liven up the proceedings a little bit, she makes enough of an impression for her show to technically function as a narrative slice-of-life comedy. There was one sequence that even made me chuckle a bit, where she goes through the various stages of exercise-induced psychosis while climbing up a famous landmark of 1200 steps.

The four supporting characters are clearly shown and named in the ED.

1,225 steps according to the English subtitles. In fact, the English title of Episode 1 is The First 1225 Steps.

Yuru Camp, at minimum, is also an activity show, celebrating the act of camping, showing different ways to camp, and going into a lot of the related minutiae at the direction of a group of likable, goofy kids. If you took away the various regional scenery/shops, you could still easily have a fun show with them camping in random parts of the wilderness.

Meanwhile, Zatsu Tabi (which I'm neutral on at this point) doesn't come off as being interested in doing anything more than presenting a brochure-of-the-week complete with pricing at the hands of a likeable tour guide. Sightseeing's a perfectly valid activity too, sure, but where's the depth to it outside of, well, seeing the sights? General travel tips and considerations?

Chika's a breakout manga artist in a slump going on a trip for a change of pace, you've got a baked in opportunity to show her making any effort to incorporate some aspect of her travel into her next submission, some of that good old personal growth, but nope, it's just a punchline that she got rejected again, time to go on another trip. Could they do that down the line? Sure, but until then, all we've got beyond the tourism propaganda is the odd bit of trivia (like that child soldier story) to flesh things out. The rest of the cast could certainly help, but if they just end up checking out places together, that isn't really moving the needle much.

I always thought you could make a great comedy about a speed runner being reincarnated into a game he know all the bug/glitch of. Similarly, shangri la start with the fun idea (before awkwardly discarding it) of having a person play terrible/buggy game, that could make for a fun isekai.[...]

There is actually manga isekai about speed runner, "RTA Sousha wa Game Sekai kara Kaerenai" translated as "Speedrunner (or RTA Runner) Cannot Return from the Game World". It's about guy who wakes up in the world of his favorite game for speed running and initially thinking he's just dreaming starts speed-running, messing up the game plot that he then tries to resolve properly. MC is nice guy, and the type that wants to go back to his life, but also to help people he already loves as game character, and everybody sees him as nice weirdo with powerful cheat powers that break all sense and logic.Unfortunately there isn't English release AFAIK, and not that many chapters (it's not LN, but original isekai manga).

Will this be another show that does not get a USA official release?

Sadly when even Precure has struggled to get a foothold in streaming internationally, a 4 cour magical girl show targeting the same audience is a big ask

Arrgh - Get me my peg leg and parrot! Someone found it worthwhile to English fan-sub.

Not just a magical girl show, but an idol magical girl show, so not the most popular genre at this time. Too bad, as it appears to be aimed at a tween-teen audience, so not overly cutesy in appearance unlike shows targeted at single-digit age children.

The only downside of the show is Riku Sorano (younger brother of the MC) who reinforces why the old European practice of "children should be seen and not heard" was a good idea. Hopefully he does not get much screen time, unless it is in Hokkaido being chased by Ursus arctos (Japanese brown bear). Wink

To be fair, Yuru Camp has a better visual presentation and more exciting/funny things going on from the very start, whereas Zatsu Tabi is even more what I call an "Ossan"-anime, a iyashi kei show for middle aged men in their midlife crisis who dream to escape their dull office job for a safe & relaxing journey into Japan's countryside and who have the money to do that if they wish. I don't consider this a show for people in their 20s or even early 30s, they usually lack the weariness one needs to have to fully understand what Chika is going through, but that doesn't mean you can't find enjoyment out of this kind of anime if you're not the target group. Still, that may explain why it gets an average at best score from the majority of the reviewers so far.

Vigilantes.

The biggest problem I have with the series is the meta.

The manga was a great read , one thing that was lost was the timing. The manga would have arcs or focus on characters that wee given ( at the moment) important roles in main,.maybe do a bit of a backstory of X, then a few months later X is gone.

With the anime adapt being on once main is almost over, we will only get that for one character.

Seems no one licensed The Mononoke Lecture Logs of Chuuzenji-Sensei. How sad. The masses won’t get to meet Kyogokudo.

Sad that there isn't a lot of love for Summer Pockets. Eh, understandable, I know stuff like that isn't for everyone, and the first episode is mainly set up.

The anime made me decide I will prefer to check game one day, so it kinda worked as promotion!

Summer Pockets I think the reviews were a bit harsh. I mean lots of romance animes are slice of life and don't really have alot going on in the first episodes either. It's more of less establishing characters, plot, and setting. Not sure if it's mentioned, but the series does take place in early 2000s so it does give off that vibe a bit. While it's too bad that Kyoani would've been a great choice to bring the setting to life, this new studio is doing a decent job. I know there isn't a massive hook, in the first episode or so but it's still an engaging story.

The characters aren't that bland and have some original quirks (minus fanservice bits that can be eye rolling. Another character later is even worse for it.) I'll also add, Hairi seems a lot less depressing than the game which is nice, because he felt like a downer before.

It's too bad the elements of mystery are too early to be hinted at. That's the best part of Key, the stories for each character and of course the overall story. It's better that the games are trying to be more cohesive rather than making the stories very standalone so it will be fun to see how they do more in the anime. And I did see some subtle hints of mystery, which was good to see but it wasn't heavily implied yet. The supernatural bit at the start either butterfly does foreshadow events of what's to come. Overall, was a good start it only felt a bit fragmented in transitions to me, maybe because I played the game? I wonder if others felt that same. But I look forward to more and I hope this gets voted in for reviews because I'd love to see opinions on what is to come.

I finally saw the first episode of Princession Orchestra! It is EXCELLENT! It’s like Pretty Cure meets PriPara!

So far, I’ve also watched and enjoyed Anne Shirley (Anne is a kindred spirit) and Maebashi Witches.

So is the general consensus that Summer Pockets isn’t going to be the next Air/Kanon/Clannad, or do the critics just not like those shows in the first place?
