Guess I am going to start back-up reading the light novels, as I don't recognize those two standing at throne level with Naofumi. Or why Raphtalia and Filo are below the throne.

I’m going to guess at this point they’re going to ride this to the end, even after that disaster of a Season 2. Which is fine, S3 was an improvement, even with the cliffhanger.

The show does good key visuals, I'll give them that.

The uncomfortable answer is, yes this has an audience, a very very big one. Despite low critical and even viewer scores, cheap isekai trash consistently outperform the best shows of the seasons for views outside of the smash hits. And it has to be frieren level smash hit to not be neck and neck.
We are talking here the general audiences that do not talk on reddit and fandom forums.

Also, I believe Shield Hero is an anime that Crunchyroll has a direct financial stake in as part of its production committee, so it's good for CR's bottom line to continue making more of it, if possible, since they get to directly profit off of it more than they would with most of their traditionally licensed anime.

I would certainly hope no anime out there uses Reddit or anime forums out of all things as any kind of decision making tool and only looks at financial success and what the fans actually like.

Yes. Shield Hero is one of the most popular anime of all time. Not just in Japan and America but other markets as well. I remember last year or the year before it was one of the most streamed anime in China on Bilibili

Also, Shield Hero season one, was a very polarizing show due to content and themes. Thus it engendered many passionate hate watchers. You can't be a proper hate watcher without watching every single episode, so you can find more fuel for the fire. Naturally, hate watchers will watch the sequels too, to keep the fires going.
It is not bad reviews that kills an anime, but indifference.
