Only one piece of key art, but looks dramatic?

After the trifling Superstar S3, and in light of what the girls’ band series are doing (Bocchi the Rock, Girls Band Cry, BanG Dream MyGO / Ave Mujica), Love Live really needs to step up its game and not just keep doing the same things over and over.

Well, this is definitely going for a darker tone than before. I'm curious what kind of subject matter they'll tackle and if they can successfully follow through it.

Not to be confused with Liz and the Blue Bird.

For now I'm sceptical...

On one hand I'm generally fine with a slightly darker story, it doesn't always have to be sunshine and rainbows (pun intended). So putting a bit of a darker twist on the classic Love Live formula to have it more grounded in reality can be a refreshing change.

On the other hand I didn't enjoy MyGO and I am really disliking Ave Mujica because it feels so unrealistically forced. With the whole cast being based on an actual band, the outcome is pretty much predetermined, so it feels completely pointless.

If they can find a good balance, a show like this can be enjoyable, but with such a short teaser I guess we'll just have to wait and find out which direction they decide to go with the show.

Hopefully not inspired by Project Bluebird either. Mind controlled high school idols would be a bit too dark.

Now if only Crunchyroll would dub season 2 and 3 of Superstar, lol .. Looking forward to this though.

Hmm, I have mixed feelings regarding the news. I love that the Love Live franchise is not too drama heavy so more drama does not excite me that much. On the other hand, the formula is getting a bit stale for me.

I wouldn't mind a darker tone like BanG Dream is currently doing, I would take anything from this franchise anyway.

Yep, that's why most people hated these. MyGO especially felt like it was written by ChatGPT with how unrealisticly every single character acts.

Let them experiment with a spin-off. A darker tone, if well made, would be a welcome expansion of the Love Live emotional range. I like how different Nijigasaki is (my avatar, anyone?), and I even enjoyed their foray into a fantasy setting! Worst case scenario, there will probably be an anime adaptation of Link! Like! Love Live! anyways.

(Disclaimer: I am speculating about the Link! Like! Love Live! anime thing.

Haven't seen Ave Mujica but thirded on MyGO. Basically it just boils down: I don't like you, and I'm not going to tell you why.

Back on topic, this gives me Revue Starlight vibes, purely going off the stage acting posture.

I will be sad if the high school idol group founder and future center does not have orange hair, a student council president who vehemently opposes the formation of an idol club (but secretly wants to be an idol), and the idol club helping or attempting to save the school in some way, and said idol group struggling initially but eventually winning the Love Live! contest. Wink Did I miss any important Love Live! tropes?

As for the show trending to be more like the most recent entry in the BanG Dream! franchise (I consider It's MyGo!!!!! and Ave Mujica to be the same show), contrary to popular opinion in the English language community I would welcome that (considering changing my rating for It's MyGo!!!!! from Excellent to Masterpiece) - heck, I even like the original anime entry to the franchise.

Who's "most people"? Their average score on MAL is higher than any of the earlier BanG Dream! titles.
