Losing to Frieren? I enjoyed the show, but it shouldn't beat Frieren. The list of nominees is also questionable.

I haven't watched Solo Leveling but I have a hard time believing it's better than either Blue Eye Samurai or Frieren.

Better than Frieren? I don't think so. How much did Sony pay for this award?

Heck, even if there were no both of them - Pluto also can wash Solo Leveling out pretty easily, but the critics picking out probably one of the worst shows on the list (besides Ninja Kamui, which had nothing to show after a good starting episode - and lost the steam completely during the run) tell a lot about the quality of their representation.

I highly doubt the people voting watched a full episode of any of the nominees least of all a full series. I mean, just look at the nominees (Ninja Kamui? An even more empty show than Solo Leveling?).

This reeks of marketing money being thrown around to score a pointless reward.

I'm pretty curious about how they even went about nominating these. I genuinely don't know how Ninja Kamui got in there, to say nothing of Solo Leveling somehow winning over Frieren or Pluto.

Was the main criteria, "I've heard of that show"?

Most likely not even "heard" - considering there is no representation in the nominations of JJK, Demon Slayer or even Dungeon Meshi, which are wildly known in the West even outside the anime communities - compared to stuff like Pluto or Ninja Kamui.

But considering there are three shows that are Netflix exclusives, one that is backed by WB money, and heavily marketed by Crunchyroll and backed by Aniplex show, the picks for nominations are pretty obvious from the "marketing" levels.

Yeah, no. At the very least, Frieren and Pluto were both far superior titles, and a case could be argued for Blue-Eye Samurai being better, too. There's at least a dozen other titles that weren't on that list that I would rank above SL for the same time frame, too.

Nothing against Solo Leveling as I enjoyed it but there is no way that it is better than Freiren or Pluto.

I take it this was a popularity contest, which would get swayed by Korean and Chinese numbers.

Hahahaha!!! Glad to come to the comments and see the same comments I was thinking. There's no way SL could beat Frieren, or to a lesser extent(for me), Pluto.

Blue eyed Samurai is on NF, but is it really that good? I seen the 1st ep, and it was okay, but I've seen a few accolades thrown around and wonder if its worth the watch.

Clearly the Astra TV Award is nothing more than a crock of shit. There were many better anime than Solo Leveling to choose from. Just another popularity contest with no real reason or substance.

Mid anime wins prestigious award. I wonder how much they paid for it.
