I know you don't like Palworld but let's not spread misinformation and put words into peoples mouth, shall we? A more accurate summarized quote would be "Nintendo is suing us but not telling us what for" which is a pretty crappy thing.

Realistically, that's not possible. It's just not public. Once they speak to the court they'd know exactly what they're being sued about. This "news" is like 3 days old too, so I'm 99% sure they know by now.

I wouldn't say that's entirely true. It for sure can be, but the vagueness of the statement "received notice of the lawsuit" when Nintendo very publicly announced they filed suit, Pocket Pair can mean either they saw the statement or they've officially been served with the suit documents. If it's only the former, then they're definitely still in the dark about exact what patents are the point of contention. I don't know if this is also the case in Japan, but the turnaround time between filing suit and being served is rarely ever as fast as just a few days.

I'm gonna laugh when the judges look at the patents and rule them invalid because they're so generic that they cannot reasonably be considered a uniquely qualifying design.

I'm playing the game weekly with a friend and still having fun with it. I just hope that, may Nintendo win, the game will remain available in some capacity.

As much as I want Palworld to win I have to question that. Perhaps if the lawsuit was in America but Japanese courts are kind of notorious for being draconian given the Ace Attorney games are a satire of them. The act of merely being sued in the first place can be seen as an admission of guilt to some people. And according to some people NIntendo has never lost a lawsuit it initiated so that's worrying.

There's also the possibility Nintendo can just drag the proceedings out and bleed Pocketpair dry financially which is a valid tactic big companies do all the time even if the lawsuit itself has no chance of winning it won't matter.

except game devs have tried & won patent disputes in past.

do you know of a game IP called Crazy Taxi? They filed patent violation agasint the Simpsons hit & run over their patent of how npc's dodge car & the destination arrow. The devs behind simpsons game ended up settling.

FF use to have a patent on their ATB combat system. (they let it expire)

the Nemesis system in Shadows of mordor game was infamously patented.

Patenting ideas in games is nothing new nor is it without precedent.

biggest thing I could see being issue is the ball system (as nintendo could easily of patented catching/release creatures in ball like devices)
but again it'll do nothing really to stop palworlds growth/dev as worst case is they lose, have to pay thge fee for it, then either pay to license the used patent or change the issue patent to soemthing else.
(i.e. if it is the ball they could easily change it to anything else even a shoe)

and given how well palworld sold it wont really change any plans of the dev's goals as they haven't wasted it so they have plenty of cash on hand to pay any fees and then just keep on keeping on.

Both games start with "p" . Come on, it is obvious.
