As they explained in episode 1, it's just a title. They're incredibly powerful, but they're god-like dragons, not dragon-like gods. That's why I feel the more literal translation of "Five God Dragons" is more appropriate than the manga's "Five Dragon Gods" that the Crunchyroll subs are using.

Ah, thank you for explaining! I somehow missed that part of episode 1. I wish they’d use “Five God Dragons” myself as “Dragon Gods” has a different meaning to me.

I thought the Lucy interlude was a fun return to classic Fairy Tail hijinks but a bit out of place with the current plot...until I realized they kind of symbolically brought it full circle to where we see Natsu there to help Lucy when she's in a bind and Lucy does the same for Natsu in the present-day (and as someone who ships them, I adore this content).
I have to hand it to JC Staff, they really knocked it out of the park with the fight against Mercphobia and Natsu's transformation sequence. I don't think Bridge could have pulled this off.
Nobuhiko Okamoto is a good choice for Ignia. Someone who you're surprised was never in Fairy Tail and could have played Natsu in another world, but is now Natsu's latest rival and brother from another mother.

My favorite aspect of EP. 7 is Gray finally wearing sexy underwear again and not the comedic board shorts.
I also heard Juvia say “romantic rival” in my head when Gray and Lucy were so close to each other. Poor Juvia can’t catch a break or see her honey.
Touka doesn’t really feel like a big bad to me. She’s probably my least favorite character so far.

I don't think Episode 8 skipped anything from the manga, and it seemingly adapted the typical number of chapters, but the overall tone and pacing felt off. If this section of the story had been adapted by the original anime, I feel like they would have stretched out Fairy Nail into an entire episode by adding filler, and I would have preferred that approach. We are told (not shown) that Natsu "saved" Lucy from someone when they got off the train, which I think could have been used to pad out the episode. Although, to be frank, seeing more doppelgangers (when Edolas is a thing) was never my favorite part of 100 Years Quest, so maybe it's a good thing that the story doesn't spend much time here. Of course, because it feels like 2 mostly unrelated stories are being told in a single episode - a silly side story with minor character development(?), and a serious plot-related story - it creates tonal whiplash that rubs me the wrong way. I might be in the minority, though.

The Fairy Nail feels so random. Like Edolas is one thing but even on their own Earth there's a bunch of doppelgangers in the entertainment industry? Feels like they're trying to set up a comedy spinoff.
So that's two doppelgangers to Natsu and Lucy who have hooked up. Feels like it's saying something.
I thought the punchline to the Elkis plot would be meeting Jellal's doppelganger but instead it's Erza being a terrible actress.
Lucy going commando in a tracksuit is quite the visual.
Gray and Juvina's date and her trying to help him be more considerate to Juvia was nice and cute but then you realize she went on a date with and flashed her chest at the doppelganger of her actual boyfriend.
They captured the magnitude of Aldoron quite well. I hope they do the upcoming fights justice.

I hate the Natsu X Lucy pairing.
There, I said it, they have the same relationship as Aqua and Kasuma, they feel like an older sibling having to deal with a younger annoying one.
Thinking of them as a romantic couple feels weird, besides, it recontextualizes Natsu's behavior towards her from childish to creepy.

To be fair, IIRC Mashima never wanted to resurrect Lisanna, it was his editor's decision. It's the one death fake-out in FT that I don't hold against him.

cant blame the editor though!
she had become quite the popular character when people thought she died!
also, death fake outs have been a stapple for most shounen series like this and one piece at the beginning
but, not anymore in this era!

To be clear, I don't have a problem with death fake-outs in general, I have a problem with FT's extreme overuse of death fake-outs, especially compared to its contemporaries.

Yeah, I love Mashima, but the final battle of the the original FT had way too many fake deaths and was really testing my patience.

Good review, however I disagree on 1 point: Fairy Tail power scaling is one of the most consistent, within the Guild the rank is:
Gildarts >>>> Laxus > Erza >= Natsu = Gajeel > Gray > power gap that wouldn't exist if Mira did missions or was a fight junkie like those above her > Mira > Juvia > Wendy > Lucy > Raijin = Elfman
Elfman has the power level to be the top dog of one of the high mid tier guilds on Fiore. You can boost or nerf anyone depending of Magic matchups and Friendship Power (Gray being on par with END thanks to Demon Slayer Magic, Gajeel loss against Natsu due to elemental advantage)

I love Erza immediately singling out Jellal, I love the return of Mira and Lisanna's transformations, I love Juvia sticking to Gray, I love Natsu vs Gajeel rematch, and I love that JC Staff even went as far as animating a full Magical Girl transformation sequence for Lucys Star Dress combo.

the other shounen series rarely do death fake outs excluding dbz and naruto. however the others like one piece and FT are starting to become like dbz and and naruto, and are rarely doing it altogther. otherwise that bird woman from the punk hazzard arc or even king cobra would have gotten death fake out like robin's giant friend jaguar d saul. not to mention that if it was still the norm in FT, some of the tartaros demon let alone some of the alvarez members like erza's mom or even mavis/zeref's son getting their own fake outs, but mashima knew that once he started killing off characters like hades or even future lucy as well as anna, he would be at the point of no return regarding doing any more death fake outs!
which is probably why there are none in edens zero!
