Other than Re:Zero (which seems to have been a convention screener leaked independently), it appears everything came from Iyuno. That company has been acquiring localization businesses for years and quietly became the largest multi-national business in the space. They have offices in countries all over the world. So while they might not be working on the English version of Arcane or Spellbound, other studios in their group could be doing the dubs, subs, etc. in French, Spanish and a bunch of other languages. |

I don't even get the big deal people make about it. The only thing censored was the nipples and even then you're still seeing more skin then what Love Hina had in it's anime release where the girls wear towels while bathing. And I should point out that Love Hina also had a Barbie doll anatomy just like the Ranma 1/2 remake. |

Classic line of companies who feel IT is a liability, an expense best left ignored. |

And Love Hina was 30 years ago. Even nearly 80 year old Japanese fart like me knows that things both Japan and West have changed greatly over three decades of what is acceptable sexualziation of teens and the predatory male gaze. You can thank Gen Y, Z and #metoo if it offends you. When I first came to America in 1984, calling people F or N was normalized, referring to someone as retarded and handicapped was too. Days of Harem anime will be numbered within decade also. |

I wonder what the purpose of these low res watermarked version are for. Do they use them to show to advertisers and other companies for marketing?
Not surprising, but disappointing to see. Maybe the BDs will add in the classic pink dots for that old school look Personally if they were going to go in barbie doll direction (and they don't plan to change it for the BDs) I'd rather they either cover them up or not show anything (though I know that might be tough with Ranma if the original is anything to go by). The barbie doll look just looks bad and is probably one of the worse ways to handle it imo. |

I think the fact Ranma is being remade at all disproves this automatically. I don't doubt the western side of the world is more sensitive when it comes to fanservice and stuff and specifically the English discussion surrounding Ranma is going to be toxic as heck but Japan has completely ignored all that and still does what it does. (people complaining about the watermarks and 360p clearly did not grow up in the late 90s or 00s. It's almost nostalgic to watch anime in this format again.. but 360p is still too high for the realplayer video files we had from the year 2000) |

Something being ignored in all this discourse is Ranma is a shonen manga meaning it's a manga for children in Japan and children's TV in Japan has generally gotten more stricter over the years to meet the demands of network TV regulations. It has nothing to do with the West or feminism or whatever other bogeyman weebs come up with.

It would have been close to the early years of YouTube had everything been split in 10-minute parts. |

It's a reputational thing, I think. For myself and probably a lot of anime fans from the US in the 90's/00's, Ranma 1/2 was the poster-child for the "anime isn't just for kids" rhetoric of the day; a series that wasn't a hentai, yet had a lot of casual nudity in it. If I remember correctly, the concept of censored Ranma was so out-there that Adult Swim put a bump out at one point saying something like "no, we're never getting Ranma", and that channel (I think for old Toonami) was willing to paint horribly obvious swimsuits on all the Tenchi Muyo nudity. Me personally, I'll be disappointed if the only version we get is censored for the reasons I listed above and because it was fully present in the manga as well (unlike in your example Love Hina's case, where the manga also had Barbie-doll nudity). But if there's an uncut late-night TV version (haven't actually looked into if this is only airing on Netflix in Japan or not) or BD version, then I'm thrilled for a proper censored version to also exist, so more people can enjoy this series. |

Well I guess this can be more exposure for the anime since its breaking headlines right now. Not saying this is good though...

My guess is that they didn't protect the data as well as they thought. They gave someone who didn't need em privileges and the hacker had fun. I'm wondering what else is gonna leak now. |

These are copies using for dubbing, subbing, captions, etc. They're low-res and watermarked to make it easily accessible to employees but also extremely obvious that this was not meant to be shared.
30 years ago, Ranma might've been marketed towards children. Today? The new show is set to air at 1AM. Amusingly, that means the one entirely accessible to kids was more "detailed" than the version intended specifically for adults. Of course, there's still the chance the production committee are using this as a Blu-Ray sales angle. |

Late night anime being made specifically for adults hasn't been a sure thing for quite a while now. The sheer number of shonen and shoujo adaptations that air in late night (even of stuff that doesn't have content unsuitable for daytime) definitely say otherwise, not to mention that streaming is also very popular in Japan so the fact that it airs late at night isn't a big barrier either. It's not a stretch to assume that they're still aiming for a broader audience in Japan given all that. |

Yeah, these are usually seen in-studio whether it's through video for behind the scenes extras or through photos by the participating voice actors and staff. |
