I love sake. Think rice cake in a glass. Now having Lum on the label whilst drinking would be nice. However, having little primary school girls on the label would just spoil the flavour for me. I'll have a case of Lum please!

Some of the politicians over here would implode if they new cartoon characters were being used to sell alcohol.

Personally, I thought there was a vast over reaction to Joe Camel.

They had planned on releasing some wine with Ratatouille labels recently (quite classy looking 2d art deco style Remys), but they pulled out if it at the last minute to avoid issues. I was let down.

As for Lum merchandise- In the past year and a half or so they've made four different DX figurines, a set of four figurine clocks that join at their bases (Lum, Ran, Benten, Oyuki), a hundred dollar plus doll, and they've re-released the entire series with special images of Lum drawn by other mangaka.

...So for some reason they've been doing a lot recently.

Do you mean characters from children's TV show cartoons promoting alcohol or just cartoon characters in general?

Do you remember Bud Man?
He's a venerable carton super hero marketing design from the late 1960's. Still was used or around through the 90's but I don't think he's used much anymore.

Sure do, he was the inspiration for Duff Man on the Simpsons. You'll never see him again either. Right now it's fruit flavored and "energy" beer that's being watched like a hawk because of its appeal to to teens. Wine coolers are probably more of a "threat" and those have been around for years, but our government isn't exactly known for accepting change and trends.

Back on topic, are the girls on the Lucky Star bottle supposed to look drunk?

Do you mean the two on the bottom (who do look like they've had a few)? The yellow-haired lady is Nanako Kuroi, the homeroom teacher for 3 of the 4 main Lucky Star girls. The green-haired lady is Yui Narumi, Konata's policewoman cousin. Both are of legal drinking age, and are shown indulging in a few episodes. Yui also has the ability to become instantly sober when her often-absent and much-missed husband returns home unexpectedly. Laughing
