i was watching the anime eureka 7. I was a watching the japanese version. A day later I wathed the english version. For the first time I liked the english version of an anime more then the japanese. I think eureka 7 is the only anime where the english version is better then the japanese. Do you guys agree with me

Well I wouldn't say Eureka Seven is the only anime that is better dubbed than subbed. There are plenty of series I prefer to watch in English over Japanese with subtitles (Big O for example). I will agree though that I do prefer the dub for Eureka Seven over the sub (I have 9 out of the 12 DVD's even though I watched the whole thing on Adult Swim and never saw the series fansubbed). It's really a matter of opinion though if the dub is better.

It's all good ,except the pronunciation of the name Eureka and her porn voice.Other than that it's a good dub.

Excuse me?! That is NOT a porn voice. REAL porn voices combine the sluttyness of overt sexual come-ons with the awkwardness of reading dirty dialog off cue cards. Eureka is husky if anything, and even then it's more the shy/timid/can barely speak husky. Which is a clear distinction from the shy/timid/can barely speak because I need a **** so bad husky.

I see.I didn't know you over analyzed porn voices. She still has quite "the bedroom" voice going on though, that could soothe the beast.Hinata on Naruto has it too. Both trying to compensate for the common Japanese cutesy voice.I prefer the wicked shrill of the original voice actor myself. The rest of the Dub is good.

Crispin Freeman plays a great role in it, need I say more? lol. This is one of the only roles I don't really think Johnny Yong Bosch is great in, although not the worst suited for the role of Renton. Kate Higgins makes a great Talho, and Kirk Thornton and Tony Oliver are great in it as well. The rest of the cast is pretty good too, some can be a little annoying sometimes.

I wouldn't equate Eurekas voice to a bedroom voice in the least. Heck, I don't think any of the voices in the series had such a voice and if they did, Talho would be the closest. I didn't find anything provocative about Eurekas voice at all.

I actually thought Johnny Yong Bosch did a great job in the dub. It did seem to take about 5 episodes or so for him to really find the right spot, but once he hit it I think he did a great job. I'm not a huge Crispin Freeman, but when he takes off the overly serious and brooding mask he wears with so many of his performances he does such an amazing job. This is what he was able to achieve with his performance as Holland I felt.

My main issue with the sub is that I felt they overacted a lot of the roles. Eureka Seven tends to be a very emotional series, the dub did a good job of keeping it to a tolerable and believable level, but the sub so often seemed to go overboard.

I've watched it both ways dubbed and subs and liked both. i used to never watch subbed but then i started to understand the tonal or emphasis placed on words in Japanese that carried more meaning than just the translated word in English; how many ways can you say baka and they all can mean something different. i never found eureka's voice seductive more a painfully shy person who perhaps overcompensated . as to the name eureka as with a lot of Japanese the u may or may not be pronounced depending on language rules i don't really comprehend ; as tatsuki in bleach being called tatski there are other examples but ...

I like both versions, but watching the dub, I found it hard to get used to the pronounciation of "Eureka". However, I wouldn't say the dub is better, I think it's basically on the same level.

I liked both subbed and dubbed. I didn't have any problems other than rentons voice in the dubbed. I dont think eureka has a porn or bedroom voice. I think her voice was done pretty well. Another voice I dont like is that guy with the big mostache. every time I hear of see him I get annoyed. But it is a great show to watch dubbed or subbed in my opinion.

Weird. I can't say whether it was better subbed or dubbed. I enjoyed both, but had a few real problems with the English dub as far as naturalness goes.

(hunt, hunt, dig, dig, travel to old thread to find what I already said...)

JesuOtaku a long time ago wrote:
Purists will kill me, but the scripting for the show was SO literal, it was hard on the ears. If I want the Japanese language and intent, I will watch the Japanese version, subbed. I always do. But I enjoy dubs immensely, and I want to hear dubs in the English language, not in literally translated Japanese spoken in English.

Some of the lines that were spoken, and this was especially true for Renton, Dewey, and Gidget/Moondoggie/the extraneous crew, sounded SO awkward coming from the characters in English. I wanted to lose myself in the story, but absolutely couldn't sometimes because no human being speaks like that.

The reactions were bizarrely phrased and overly philosophical. The humor didn't always translate, or at least not as well as it could have with a good translation, i.e. one that changes the lines to match the natural flow of the English language but keeps the intent. Close to literal dubbing hurt this show for us English-listeners. Heck, the VAs sound like they're struggling to understand what they're saying sometimes. Rei sounds particularly confused in some of her lines.

Sorry I can't quote much to prove my point. I don't own the show, don't remember the dialogue literally.

It's definitely NOT the only dub that's better in English than Japanese. Cetus-kun mentioned Big O, which is a good example. I would add to that Cowboy Bebop, BECK, maybe Fullmetal Alchemist, but Romi Paku is hard to surpass, so I don't know.

Actually, there are very few cases when I can say, "the sub was better," or "the dub was better." Usually, they're on the level with each other, or compensate for each other in different ways. Anyway...

Eureka does NOT have a porn voice...but it did get on my nerves occasionally, both languages. Wink [/quote]

Please, no dissing Jennifer Sekiguchi, she has an awesome voice. If any of you ever played Radiata Stories or Grandia 3 or even Tales of the Abyss, then you'd know her voice is NOT a porn voice :3

And as for FMA, I really like Vic's voice more than Romi's. Can't help it, Mr. Vignogna's voice is like gold to me Anime smile

That's just the way she talks while reading a script.Sounds like she would have a great Ero voice.I'm willing to bet she doesn't talk in a forced voice like that.

Are Tri ace,Gamearts and Namco just trying to appeal to the Dub crowd,No.I play games for the games, not for the VA's.When enabled,I flip on the original dialect.I applaud you for knowing who your VA's are.

Actually I thought this was one of Freeman's more serious roles, lol. The way Holland constantly gets pissed off. His voice as Alucard was serious too but had a hint of enjoyment in his voice when killing people, I think Holland was bruting more than most of his other roles.

Yeah, but he showed more range. General concern, happiness, affection, anger, jealousy and so on. I guess his other roles tend to feel as though the emotions are a lot more muted, like they're typical tough guys or seasoned veterans. Holland didn't feel like that, he had less control of his emotions and Freeman portrayed that quite effectively.
