Someone didn't get the memo or are they using anime as a blanket term for anything animated? |

Frieren is by far the one deserving of the win among these. Seeing Blue Eye Samurai made me laugh though, because it's both not an anime and absolute garbage.

Three of those nominees (Frieren, Pluto, Scott Pilgrim) actually belong on that list. While I can somewhat understand Solo Leveling being present (it is one of the hottest series of the past year, even if it isn't on the same quality level), Ninja Kamui? Really???

Yeah. Ninja Kamui is one of the worst series I watched last season next to the CGI version of Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac. How did it make it here?

I'm just surprised Jujutsu Kaisen isn't on it somehow.
...Is it too late to make that joke? |

I feel I like Blue Eyed Samurai more then most, but I can't defend it being nominated for best series in anything. Just, no.

You can tell whoever picked the nommine's does not really know what qualifies as an anime. I feel that ninja and blue samurai only got nominated cause of there asian theme and adult focus and that implies more ignorance than anything else.

If an animated show gets at least a TV-14 then it is an anime. So says marketing. At least 5 out of 6 are anime. A higher percentage than what Netflix markets as anime. 4 out of the 6 shows are also legit award contenders. A defendable list considering the quality level and degree of shows where a Japanese company is attached. The Hollywood Critics Association gets to take a W here. My vote goes to Pluto.
The Emmies called Blue Eye Samurai an anime. That race is lost, boys. Hank Hill is the most powerful anime character ever, now and forever. https://www.emmys.com/news/online-originals/blue-eye-samurai-netflix-interview |

If you don't really know what an anime is, and Netflix calls it an anime (as they do Blue Eyed Samurai), then I guess they assume it's an anime. And gosh, it even has Japanese iconography. Even nominated, though, it's a clunker of a win. Frieren is the obvious choice, as it mixes artistic success with mass market appeal, which is a legitimate criteria for an award like this.
By which I mean, one that doesn't really mean anything. |

Personally I don't see why there should be a special category for Japanese animation, animation is universal.
