Does this make your theme song, Rockwell’s “Somebody’s Watching Me”?

Well, the second battlefield/battle went even easier than the first one. Diablo is a powerhouse and his opponents basically amount to nothing against him, it is always amusing to see him giggle and play with his food. Otherwise the merchant guy was smart in choosing to flee based on his gut and the robed dudes are probably going to start the real fight. Also kudos to Ranga, he is a lot stronger than I remember.

Things picked up quite a bit for me this week. Hinata's predicament sucked, but it gave a sense of real stakes that the easy victories were lacking. Watching Shion and Diablo and Ranga easily dominate was sort of fun, but it was the same dynamic repeated, and in a way it made all of the talking seem pointless. What's the point of six episodes of talk talk talk if everybody is just going to go in and mop things up easily with brute strength and let everybody go, or else just walk right into the enemy's trap like a cow trumping down a cattle chute?
That said, I got a chuckle at the sight of the red head wordlessly turning tail and running for her life. The female in Valentine's glass case was an interesting development - is that who I think it is? And the appearance of the despicable 7 finally showing some of their cards was a welcome sight.

And so ends the arc (besides some more talking next episode most likely). I have rather mixed feelings if I am honest. The setting is still just as charming as always and I will never tire of the country of goofballs and their antics. The presentation is fine too.
All that said, the big issues with the arc are clear to see: there were over 4 episodes of talking while sitting at a table and during those talks they did not even show something interesting. Besides the question if so much talking is necessary it would have helped if they had taken advantage of being an anime. The second issue is one of never having the excitement of wondering if the gang will lose or not. The show has never been one for grim fights (excluding the one exception) yet this arc has felt completely bereft of any stakes or real danger.

I alluded to this before, but the main thing that frustrates me about all the talking is that in the end, they just walked right into the enemy trap and then brute forced their way out of it. I could have forgiven some of the strategizing if there was actually any strategy, but all it amounted to was split up and keep the dragon out of it. They acted like they were playing chess but were really just playing bumper cars.

I watched the most recent few episodes after stopping midway through last season- something I occasionally do with shows that are more frustrating than bad (there's another one this season like that,) and was very quickly reminded how much I loathe Raphael. I know that's likely not a new complaint, but I forgotten just how awful the issue came across to me.

Raphael is basically the perfect counter to any kind of issue that Rimuru may encounter in a fight. It makes most fights even easier than they should be. As for the rest of this week's episode....there was once again a lot of talking, a large part of it at that same old table that we have seen a lot recently. While I accept that a large part of the series is strategic meetings I look forward to the festival arc to hopefully have a period of time without them.

Yeah, the show really is a lot better at the slice of life/country building than it is at wars and setting up conflict. Seeing Tempest grow and now be big enough to have a festival filled with all kinds of characters doing their own presentation is great fun. Seeing Rimuru visit characters of previous seasons and get them involved is nice too.
Judging by the new opening it will be a fun time.

Remainder of the season is almost pure slice of life and gags. The plot is almost totally stalled out in the content they will be adapting. Its also Slime maxing out how much it leans into it being an MMO world.
Personally, I think Slime works best when it juggles all its facets at once (or rather, its versatility is what makes it work at all) and the material in the rest of the season is somewhat dull. But lets see! I suspect animation may be a better format for it at least.

I agree that the show is at it's best when all elements are present yet these past 2 episode of slice of life adventures and setting up the festival are breathing some life/fun into the show. Even the conversations that happen feel more lively and a lot less dry, especially so when a certain tiny demon lord is involved.

That was some really cool dungeon building. 100 floors of deadly traps of all kinds (some really nasty), all kinds of monsters spawning thanks to Veldora letting out his magicules at the bottom and the floors themselves changing thus making every run different. If they are able to add some elemental dragons to that you have everything you could want in a dungeon. On the other side you have chests filled with rare loot, save rooms and bracelets to not die.
The biggest positive about the episode is the characters having fun and interacting, it is such a contrast with the dry meetings earlier in the season.

Chosen One seem like a curse rather than a great skill to have if I am honest. It very much warps everything around Masayuki yet he can not turn it off or do anything about it, anything he says or does will be warped into the right thing.

And so ends the third season. I liked the season as a whole and particularly the second half since that went all in on the slice of life and kingdom building (the things the show is best at imo). That is not to say that I hated the first half but it had major issues in regards to the pacing. The many boring board meetings were grating and during the conflict with the church there was never any real excitement or doubt on how it was going to end.
So yeah, time to wait until the announced 4th season pops up.
